⚖️ New York's Governor has appointed a special prosecutor in the Cornell fraternity r**e case.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed an executive order naming Attorney General Letitia James to investigate the alleged 2024 gang r**e of a former Cornell student at a fraternity house, and prosecute if warranted.

The former student alleges in a lawsuit that she was drugged and assaulted by seven men. These are allegations and have not been proven in court.

Hochul said new information raised "serious questions" about the original investigation and the decision not to prosecute. The local DA has reopened the case, and Cornell has agreed to an independent investigation.

The woman, known only as "Jane Doe," said she was first embarrassed, but later realised: "I was assaulted." 💬

💔 Gypsy Rose Blanchard has spoken out after the death of her partner, Ken Urker.

Ken was found dead at his home in Louisiana on October 1, his 34th birthday. Gypsy told PEOPLE she believes he overdosed, but says she doesn't know if it was intentional.

Ken was an amazing father and a man who was deeply loved," she said. She also spoke about the online bullying he faced and its toll on him.

🌊🤖 116 robots. Zero human control.

A Chinese team has set a new Guinness World Record for the most autonomous underwater vehicles operating at the same time.

Researchers from Northwestern Polytechnical University deployed 116 small TH-618 robots in a swimming pool. They moved in formation along a preset route for 34 minutes, covering about 500 metres, without any human steering.

Why is this hard? There is no GPS underwater and radio signals barely work, so each robot has to rely on local data to stay in formation.

The previous known swarm, from an EU-funded project, had 41 robots. This one is more than double.

⚠️ To be clear, this was a controlled pool test, not an ocean mission. But it is a step towards large teams of robots for water monitoring, search and mapping.

✈️ A hero in the cockpit.
Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar, 39, a father of two from Mumbai, was stabbed during an alleged attempt to take down a Flydubai plane heading to Israel with more than 170 people on board.

Despite being seriously wounded, he fought back and the cockpit door was opened, allowing passengers and crew to overpower the attacker. The plane was diverted safely to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.

He is now in stable condition in hospital. Israel's Prime Minister said his courage helped prevent a catastrophe, and he is being hailed as a hero in both India and Israel. 🇮🇳🇮🇱

Those who know him describe him as a smiling, gentle, "jovial" man. Wishing him a speedy recovery. 🙏

⚓ Five years away from Rochefort, the frigate Hermione is still waiting in dry dock in the Basque Country.

The famous wooden replica of the ship that carried Lafayette to America in the 18th century has been damaged by fungus eating into its hull. A court in La Rochelle has now given its association two more months to save it.

💶 €5 million is needed for the restoration, and €1 million must be raised within these two months to protect 15 jobs and around 75 indirect ones.

🇺🇸 The dream: to sail again and reach the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
