The Manipur High Court has issued a final one-month extension to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to file a chargesheet in the Jiribam killings case, warning that any further delay will be taken seriously.

The case, involving the abduction and murder of six people — including three minors — in November 2024, has remained unresolved for over eight months, drawing widespread public concern.

The Assam government is set to begin a large-scale eviction drive from Tuesday in the Rengma Reserve Forest at Uriamghat, Golaghat district. The operation will impact over 10,000 bighas (approx. 3,300 acres) and nearly 2,000 families, as part of efforts to reclaim forest land illegally converted into agricultural lands.
