ANOTHER LOOK

TheVibe - Identity

Not everything we inherit is passed down with pride.

Sometimes it’s a bag folded away in a cupboard. A steel plate reserved for home. A way of eating, dressing or speaking that quietly disappears as we learn what the world rewards.

Another Look asks a simple but unsettling question: Who taught us what was worth leaving behind?

Through objects that have lived in South Asian homes for generations, Two Odd and The Manjapai Collective reveal how identity isn’t lost all at once. It fades in small acts of replacement when familiarity becomes embarrassment, and memory gives way to aspiration.

To look again is not an act of nostalgia.

It is an act of recognition.

THE MOTHER WHO WELCOMES WITH WINE — AND WARNS WITH A SWORD

THEVIBE — TRAVEL

High above Tbilisi, Kartlis Deda has watched over Georgia’s capital since 1958.

The Mother of Georgia was first conceived as a temporary wooden monument for Tbilisi’s 1,500th anniversary. The city grew so attached to her that she remained, later preserved in aluminium and eventually rebuilt in metal.

In one hand, she carries a bowl of wine for those who arrive as friends. In the other, a sword for those who come as enemies.

Perhaps no monument captures Georgia more precisely: generous in its welcome, fierce in its spirit, and deeply protective of its identity.

WHEN PEOPLE BECOME MYTH

TheVibe - ID (Identity)

Identity isn’t always spoken.

Sometimes, it’s painted.
Sometimes, it’s inherited.
Sometimes, it’s worn.

For his series AAM AASTHA: Indian Devotions, French photographer Charles Fréger travelled across India documenting communities that embody gods, spirits, animals and mythical figures through ritual performance.

His portraits explore something far deeper than costume or ceremony. They reveal identity as a living tradition—passed down through generations, shaped by memory, belief and community. In these moments, mythology is no longer a story from the past; it becomes something lived, performed and carried forward by ordinary people.

The result is more than a collection of portraits. It is a visual archive of how culture continues to shape who we are.

Some films are not simply watched. They are returned to.

TheVibe Cinema

Ritwik Ghatak’s A River Called Titas is one such film - a sprawling, wounded, deeply human work about a fishing community tied to the Titas River, and the slow erosion of a world held together by memory, labour, ritual, and belonging.

WHERE THE VALLEY GATHERS

TheVibe - Travel

Every year at Kullu Dussehra, hundreds of local deities journey from across the valley to the Dhalpur grounds.

Carried on palanquins.
Accompanied by devotees.
Led by drums, horns, and generations of devotion.

For seven days, the valley gathers.

Villages arrive.
Families wait.
Raths move through the crowd.
Old routes return through living hands.

What appears as procession is also an assembly.
What appears as celebration is also a memory.

Since the 17th century, Kullu Dussehra has held this valley together — beyond village, caste, and clan.
This is Dussehra as Kullu has always known it.

Not a conclusion.
A coming together.

Swipe through Kullu, where devotion still has footsteps.

WHERE WEATHER BECOMES CINEMA

TheVibe - Adventure

Across the Faroe Islands, land meets the Atlantic in cliffs, fog, waterfalls, and wind.

Travel filmmaker and creative director Frederik Sørensen captures this edge of the world with a quiet cinematic eye — where every road, ridge, and coastline feels shaped by weather.

In this film, the journey becomes less about reaching a place, and more about learning how to move through it.

A figure stands beneath a waterfall.
A road disappears into mist.
Boats pass below stone walls carved by the sea.
The mountains hold their silence.

What appears as adventure is also patience.

What appears as travel is also surrender.

The Faroe Islands do not reveal themselves all at once.

They ask you to slow down.
To listen.
To trust the weather.
To let the landscape lead.

When Coppola Went to War With His Own Film

THEVIBE — CINEMA

Apocalypse Now became one of cinema’s defining visions of war—but making it nearly destroyed everyone involved.

Typhoon Olga demolished the sets. Martin Sheen suffered a heart attack. Marlon Brando arrived unprepared, forcing Francis Ford Coppola to rethink the ending. Military helicopters repeatedly abandoned takes to join real combat operations, while actual human remains were reportedly discovered among the props used for Colonel Kurtz’s compound.

As the production spiralled beyond control, Coppola’s pursuit of the film became indistinguishable from the madness unfolding within it.

Captured by Eleanor Coppola in the Emmy-winning documentary Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse, the footage reveals a director pushing his cast, crew and himself to the edge in pursuit of cinematic transcendence.

ABOUT THE FILM

Directed by Eleanor Coppola, Fax Bahr and George Hickenlooper, Hearts of Darkness uses behind-the-scenes footage, recordings and interviews to document the famously troubled production of Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now.

The Compass 🧭 Within

TheVibe -Adventure

In 1982, Jacques Cousteau’s legendary vessel Calypso sailed the St. Lawrence from the Atlantic to the Great Lakes, navigating ice, rough seas, and unforgiving waters in the name of exploration.

Using archival footage from that expedition, creator Jay Brennan pairs the voyage with a simple but powerful reflection:

The more you chase what isn’t meant for you, the further you drift from what is.

The universe has given you a compass 🧭 not in your pocket, but in your heart.♥️

The challenge is finding the courage to trust it.

About the Creator
