Have you ever faced a moment when you realized your true calling, but it meant stepping into unknown territory?

For Meera Ravi, this moment came when she decided to take over her family’s 35-year-old manufacturing business during the tough times of COVID. As Chief Operating Officer of Viyoma Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd. hashtag , she viewed it as an opportunity to reboot and bring long-term changes.

Meera studied Design, Cognitive Science, and an MBA from MIT and NYU, learning concepts to create Viyoma. The business thrived, selling more than 90% of its products to Europe and North America. Meera wanted more, feeling that more women in manufacturing would bring a better future. She inspired schools to get female engineers and pushed companies to close the gender gap.

It was not easy for Meera to leave a secure job outside India to take over Viyoma. Taking it in her stride and accepting that she had to learn, she worked under senior colleagues on the shop floor. Her advice is: "If you can't find a mentor, learn by watching experienced people." Meera founded Viyoma's culture on honesty, trust, and development of employees. Training over 2,000 engineers from erstwhile illiterate families, she transformed lives and transformed the company. Meera looks at leadership outside of business success, she advocates for startups in the fight against climate change and for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) that wish to reduce pollution despite the cost. She is of the opinion that inter-industry collaboration is necessary in order to fight these issues.

Meera's life is a testament to the fact that a clear vision and strong willpower can make one accomplish anything. She encourages women in manufacturing to believe, take risks, and lead.

Have you ever walked into a room where no one expected you to lead?

Harshada Lokhande did. And she ensured that they never doubted her again. When she stepped onto the shop floor, she was not starting a job—she was entering an industry where women were scarce, bosses were predominantly men, and opportunities weren't awarded, they were seized. But she didn't fear. Rather, she gained experience in hashtag , automation, and AI and built a career that blends traditional industry with new hashtag . Today, she is leading Smart Manufacturing Solutions at NMDC Dredging & Marine, UAE.

She started her career at Mahindra & Mahindra, where she worked on robots, machines, and production planning in factories at Nashik, Zaheerabad, and Kandivali. She was a leader at John Deere and NMDC Dredging & Marine in the UAE over time, where she currently lead of smart manufacturing solutions with AI. With her experience in data analytics and manufacturing, she is making the future of the industry a better one.

Harshada is a strong advocate of workplace diversity. She has managed groups of over 150 men assembling mechanical engines and then managed a 70% female team, demonstrating that talent is not based on gender. She is a member of the Society of Women Engineers, organizes industry events, and mentors young women engineers. Her story is not about her success alone—it's about assisting others.

Like most businesswomen, she too experienced problems and discrimination. Her bosses doubted whether she could work shifts, instructed her to resign when she married, and even informed her that she did not belong. But she did not give up. She formed close friendships, became known as "Superwoman" by her colleagues, and demonstrated that leadership is not handed out on a silver platter—it is earned.

Her message is simple, "It's alright to be the only one in the room. Just do not be the last." Change isn't overnight, but every move forward makes it possible for those who will come after to do the same. Her story reminds us that all obstacles are an opportunity—so show up, take up space, and own it.

Can women truly make their mark in manufacturing?

It’s a question Lina Pradhan once asked herself. When she moved from the United States to India, she was stepping into the unknown—not just adjusting to a new country but also taking charge of Samtec Tools in an industry where women hashtag were rare. But instead of hesitating, she took the leap. She had something to prove—not just to others, but to herself.

Lina’s journey started far from the factory floors of India, in Syracuse, New York. With a civil engineer father who nurtured her curiosity for science and hashtag , she pursued Electrical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and built a strong foundation in project management at American Electric Power. But no amount of degrees or corporate hashtag could prepare her for the challenge of stepping into a male-dominated industry in a different country.

At Samtec Tools, she rolled up her sleeves, restructured operations, and introduced automation to build a stronger, more efficient company. But beyond boardrooms and shop floors, she found another purpose—giving back. Through the Sathya Sai Organization, she actively supports free medical care and cataract surgeries for those who need them most.

Her journey wasn’t easy. In the beginning, few took her seriously. She wasn’t just a newcomer—she was a woman. Instead of arguing for a place at the table, she earned it through results. Balancing a demanding career, a new life in India, and motherhood tested her every single day. But she kept going, driven by the belief that hard work speaks louder than words.

Today, she wants more women to step forward in engineering and manufacturing. Her message to young girls? "Be fearless, take the leap, and never stop learning." Because if her journey proves anything, it’s that you don’t have to fit in—you can create your own space.

For everyone, the ground is just dirt. For her, it was the start of a journey.

Dr Kavita Bhardwaj started her professional journey in mining out of curiosity, but it soon became her passion. While she was a student, a visit to the Zawar underground mine changed her life. It was not just rocks and minerals alone, it was a whole new world. This inspired her to study geology, complete her PhD, and establish a career in India's mining industry. Today she is now the Deputy CEO of Hindustan Zinc Limited and leading the search for new minerals.

Mining has mostly been a male-dominated field, but that never stopped Kavita. She proved to them what she could do by the discovery of 5.5 million tons of ore in Kayad and the application of advanced 3D exploration in Zawar. She didn't just work in mining, she changed how things were done, bringing new ideas and technology.

Her path was not simple. She needed to establish herself in a tough industry while simultaneously balancing her home life. Only 10 days after giving birth to a child, she was back on the job. Her dedication and hard work helped her achieve big milestones, like securing India’s first privately awarded gold block in Chhattisgarh.

To Kavita, success is not just about her own achievements. She wants more women like her to be leaders in the mining sector. She believes the sector needs new ideas and is working to create more opportunities for women.

Her story proves that passion, hard work, and persistence can break any barrier. As Kavita says, "The industry needs more women leaders, and with the right mindset and support, you can be one of them."
