Buddha's Panchsheel (Five Precepts):

The basic ethical guidelines for humans.

1. Panatipata veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami
I undertake the precept to refrain from destroying living creatures.
: Refraining from harming any living being, physically or mentally. This includes not killing, injuring, or causing pain to animals, humans, or oneself. It also extends to thoughts and intentions, promoting compassion and kindness.

2. Adinnadana veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami
I undertake the precept to refrain from taking that which is not given.
: Respecting the property of others and not taking what is not freely given. This encompasses honesty, integrity, and avoiding any form of theft or exploitation.

3. Kamesu micchacara veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami
I undertake the precept to refrain from sexual misconduct.
: Maintaining appropriate sexual behavior, respecting boundaries, and avoiding exploitation. This emphasizes mindful relationships, responsibility, and refraining from actions that could cause harm or suffering to oneself or others.

4. Musavada veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami
I undertake the precept to refrain from incorrect speech.
