Shravan Mahashivratri in Kashi, a day to surrender, pray and seek Mahadev’s blessings 🕉️🔱

As the sacred chants fill the air and devotees bow before Shiva, may Baba Vishwanath bless you and your loved ones with peace, strength and happiness.

Every idol begins with a handful of मिट्टी.

But before it becomes a form of the divine, it passes through countless hours of patience, precision and devotion.

Meet the traditional Murti makers of Kashi, who begin their journey by collecting sacred clay from Assi Ghat. With skilled hands and unwavering dedication, they slowly transform ordinary earth into extraordinary idols that become the center of faith in countless homes and temples.

Every curve, every expression and every detail is shaped by hand. A single mistake can mean starting all over again.

For them, this is more than craftsmanship.

It is seva, tradition, and a legacy passed down through generations.

The next time you fold your hands before an idol, remember the unseen hands that first gave it life.

Hidden along the peaceful banks of Lalita Ghat stands one of Kashi’s most extraordinary temples, the Nepali Temple, a remarkable replica of Nepal’s revered Pashupatinath Temple.

Built over 40 years using timber brought from Nepal and handcrafted by Nepali artisans, every pillar, carving and doorway reflects centuries of craftsmanship and devotion. Known as the “Mini Khajuraho of Kashi,” the temple’s intricate wooden sculptures make it unlike any other shrine in Varanasi.

More than a place of worship, this temple represents a timeless connection between Kashi and Kathmandu, where faith, architecture, and culture come together on the banks of the Ganga.

If you’re exploring Kashi beyond the famous landmarks, this hidden gem deserves a place on your list.

She sells diyas at Janki Ghat.

First she lost her husband. Her son held her together after that. Then she lost him too.

She still shows up every evening lighting small flames for people she’s never met, carrying a loss most of us will never have to.

No complaints. Just life, one diya at a time.

Sometimes the strongest people are the ones we walk past without noticing.

His name is Shivam Mishra. He’s 12.

Every morning before the sun is fully up, he bathes, prays, and sits at Assi Ghat to perform Vedic rituals most adults spend a lifetime learning.

Pitra Puja. Ganga Puja. Satyanarayan Katha. Maha Mrityunjaya Jaap. Weddings. Janeu. Aarti.

While other kids his age are still asleep, Shivam is already chanting his mala.

“This is my dharam,” he says.

In a city where tradition is passed down like breath, some children don’t just inherit faith, they become its keepers.

Tag someone who needs to see this.

For many, Kashi is a place to visit.

For others, it is the place where life’s final journey finds peace.

According to Hindu tradition, dying in Kashi is believed to grant moksha liberation from the cycle of birth and rebirth. It is said that Lord Shiva himself grants the Tarak Mantra to the departing soul, guiding it toward liberation.

This is why, for centuries, people have come to Kashi not out of fear of death, but with faith in what lies beyond it.

In Kashi, death is not seen as an end.

It is believed to be the beginning of eternal freedom.

📍 Kashi, the city where faith and eternity meet.
