Things I love about being Muslim in the UK 🇬🇧☪️

One of the things I’ve come to appreciate most since becoming Muslim is just how diverse the Muslim community is in the UK.

There are so many different cultures, backgrounds and communities — and honestly, the food is one of the best parts 😂

From Pakistani and Indian food to Turkish, Middle Eastern, African and so much more, there are so many amazing halal food options across Britain.

But it’s not just the food. I love having mosques and Muslim communities across the country, celebrating Eid, experiencing Ramadan and being able to live my life as both British and Muslim.

As a Muslim revert, I never really appreciated how big and diverse Islam was in Britain until I became Muslim.

What do you love most about being Muslim in the UK? 🇬🇧👇

Which country made me feel closest to Allah? 🇮🇩☪️

For me, the answer is Aceh, Indonesia.

Aceh is a very unique part of Indonesia because it is the only province in the country where Sharia-based law is formally applied, and Islam is deeply woven into everyday life.

What really stood out to me was the atmosphere.

🕌 Mosques are everywhere
🍛 People sharing food and eating together
☪️ Islam is part of everyday life
🚫 There’s no nightlife or club culture like you find in many tourist destinations
🥘 Finding halal food is incredibly easy
🤲 And I found the people’s faith and connection to Islam really inspiring

But there was something deeper that affected me.

Aceh was devastated by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, one of the deadliest natural disasters in modern history. So many people lost their lives, homes and loved ones.

When I heard people’s stories and learned about what the community had experienced, I felt that the tragedy had also strengthened the faith of many people and brought them closer to Allah.

Being surrounded by the mosques, the community, the simplicity of life and people who had experienced so much but still held onto their faith made me reflect on my own relationship with Allah.

Out of everywhere I’ve travelled, Aceh is where I felt closest to Allah. 🤍

Have you ever travelled somewhere that made you feel closer to Allah? 🌍👇

Where’s the best country to spend Ramadan? 🌙

For me, it has to be Malaysia 🇲🇾

The Ramadan markets are incredible, but what really made it special for me was the sense of community.

You can walk into a mosque, sit down for iftar and find yourself eating with people from completely different countries and backgrounds.

Sometimes the food is provided for free, everyone is sharing, talking and waiting together for Maghrib.

As a Muslim revert, there’s something really beautiful about sitting down with complete strangers from around the world and knowing that, for that moment, you’re all there for the same reason.

If you could spend Ramadan anywhere in the world, where would you choose? 🌙👇

Follow, Save and Share. Jazakallah 🤍 Becoming Muslim isn’t just about saying the Shahadah — it can mean starting an entirely new chapter of your life.

For many reverts to Islam, the journey comes with sacrifices, questions, family difficulties and a lot of things people around them may never fully understand.

But there are also beautiful things about becoming Muslim that I think more people should know.

Your sins can be wiped away.
Your good deeds can still be rewarded.
Your past doesn’t define you.
And your story could even be the reason someone else finds Islam.

Some of the greatest companions were people who accepted Islam after previously being non-Muslim. Your starting point doesn’t determine where your journey can take you.

If you’re a Muslim revert, I’d genuinely love to hear your story in the comments. And if you’re considering Islam or have questions about becoming Muslim, feel free to ask. 🫶

Share this with someone who needs to see it, and insha’Allah it reaches the person who needs it most. 🤍

Where are you from? 🌍☪️
One of my favourite things about Islam is how it brings people together.

Different countries, cultures, languages and backgrounds — but somehow we can meet anywhere in the world and still feel like brothers and sisters through Islam. 🤍

Why haven’t I been to Umrah yet? 🕋

I actually had Umrah booked.

I was ready to go, excited to finally visit Makkah and Madinah… but then I got pneumonia and I couldn’t go.

At first, I couldn’t understand why it had happened.

But it taught me something I’ll never forget:

You can make the plans, book the flights and prepare everything… but ultimately, Allah decides when you get to visit His House.

Maybe it wasn’t my time.

Maybe Allah was protecting me from something I couldn’t see.

Or maybe He was teaching me to be patient.

I’ve realised that Umrah isn’t just about wanting to go.

Allah has to invite you.

And when that invitation comes, I pray I’m ready. 🤲🏼

InshaAllah, one day I’ll be standing in front of the Ka’bah. 🕋❤️

5 things I misunderstood about Islam before I became Muslim.

I grew up with ideas about Islam that I never really questioned — until I actually started learning about what Muslims believe.

I thought Islam was only for Arabs.
I thought Muslims didn’t believe in Jesus.
I thought becoming Muslim meant you had to be perfect.
I thought Islam was simply a list of rules.
And I had so many assumptions about what Muslims actually believed.

But when I started asking questions and reading the Qur’an for myself, I realised that some of the things I believed about Islam simply weren’t true.

I’m not saying everyone who learns about Islam will become Muslim.

But I do believe everyone deserves to understand Islam from Muslims and its actual sources, rather than only through stereotypes or what they hear in the media.

I’ve realised, if everyone knew the Islam I discovered, they might understand why I became Muslim. 🤍

Have you ever misunderstood something about Islam before learning about it?

The questions that made me question everything… and eventually led me to Islam. ☪️

What is the purpose of life?
What happens after death?
Where does justice come from?
Can God be a man?
Can Allah forgive my mistakes?
Where did we come from?

I didn’t have all the answers. But asking these questions led me to explore Islam, the Quran, God, purpose, the afterlife and what it means to actually believe.

As a British Muslim revert, my journey to Islam started with questions — not having everything figured out.

And sometimes, asking the right question is the beginning of finding the right answer.

If you’re questioning your faith, religion or purpose in life, don’t be afraid to search for answers.

Everyone’s journey to Islam looks different. 🤍

My parents were raised Christian but later became atheists. My sister and I were also atheists growing up.

Then Allah guided us to Islam.

I became Muslim in 2022, and my sister eventually found Islam too. My wife’s story is completely different — she was born Muslim, raised Muslim, and Alhamdulillah remains Muslim today.

Two completely different journeys, somehow brought together.

And inshaAllah, when Allah blesses us with children, our biggest hope is to raise them upon Islam and give them the beautiful deen that changed our lives.

I often think about how different my life could have been, and all I can say is Alhamdulillah. 🤲🏼

Never underestimate the power of guidance. You never know where someone’s journey will take them.
