Konkani Qawwali entralls “GÔY ANI GÔYKARPONN” Cultural Festival.
In a strong public affirmation of Goa’s heritage and communal harmony, the Catholic Association of Goa organised the “GÔY ANI GÔYKARPONN” Cultural Festival - Celebrating Goa’s Heritage and Identity through Music and Dance on Thursday, 21 May 2026, at the Taleigao Community Centre, Taleigao.
The highlight of the evening was the rendition of Konkani Qawwali by artiste Nawab Sheikh which was welcomed by the audience with applause and admiration. The qawwali was based on the evergreen Tiatrist M. Boyer’s song.
Sonia Shirsat, Sidhanath Buyao, Seby Fernandes, Sonali Naik, Assenca Fernandes, Custodio Dias, Kenneth Lobo, Fr. Elvis Fernandes (SFX) and Roque Lazarus rocked the evening with their songs and performances.
The event was intermingled with folk dances such as Ghummtam and Naach, Fuggddio, Mando, Divli Naach and the surprise package of Qawwali.
The Cultural event was an initiative of the Catholic Association of Goa (CAG), in collaboration with the Apostolate for Inter-Religious Dialogue, the Apostolate for Inculturation of the Goa Archdiocese, and Sadbhav of the Society of Pilar.
The programme drew an encouraging response and brought together people from different walks of life in a spirit of unity, cultural pride, and social harmony. Conceived as a positive and healing public response to the recent communal strain witnessed in Goa, the event sought to reaffirm the values of coexistence, mutual respect, and shared heritage that have long defined Goan society. Recent Church reporting has similarly described harmony-focused initiatives in Goa as responses to rising communal discord.
Through music, dance, and cultural expression, the festival celebrated the composite identity of Goa and reminded all present that the true strength of Goa lies in its communal bonding and inclusive social fabric. The organisers expressed deep satisfaction at the manner in which the programme was received and at the strong message of togetherness that emerged from the evening.
The Catholic Association of Goa expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the collaborating bodies, invited guests, artistes, supporters, donors, volunteers, and members of the public whose presence and support contributed to the success of the festival. Special appreciation was also extended to all those who worked behind the scenes to ensure that the event was conducted in a dignified and meaningful manner.
CAG stated that the success of this programme has strengthened its resolve to continue such initiatives in the future, so that Goa’s rich heritage, identity, and communal harmony may be preserved and celebrated for generations to come.
