🇮🇳 120th Birth Anniversary of General Kodandera Subbaiah Thimayya Ajja
Some men earn ranks. Few earn respect that lasts generations. Gen. Thimayya was one of them.
Born on March 31, 1906 in Coorg, he was known to his friends as “Timmy” but to the nation he became a symbol of courage, dignity and fearless leadership.
From risking his life in Baghdad to save innocent civilians, to leading soldiers on the frontlines with calm confidence, he never chose the easy path. He chose the right one.
During World War II, he led from the front in Burma and captured Hill 109, catching enemy forces off guard. He later stood as a signatory to the Japanese surrender at Singapore, marking a historic moment.
Back home, during the Kashmir conflict of 1947–48, his leadership played a key role in protecting India when it mattered most.
He went on to serve as the Chief of the Army Staff from 1957 to 1961, earning honors like the DSO and Padma Bhushan, and the lifelong respect of every soldier who served under him.
He was not just a General. He was a leader soldiers trusted, a man who stood tall under pressure, and a legacy that still inspires.
Some legends fade.
His never will.
