Χριστός ἀνέστη! – Ἀληθῶς ἀνέστη!
This is a customary Easter greeting originating from the Greek language ("Khristós anésti! – Alethós anésti") which translates, "Christ is Risen! – Truly He is Risen!"
Consider the:
1. Necessity of Christ’s Resurrection
- Proved complete victory over death; confirmed Christ’s obedience and satisfaction for sin.
- Required by His divine nature as the Author of life; He could not be held by death.
- Confirmed His priestly work: not only making satisfaction for sin (sacrifice), but also applying it to believers (intercession).
2. Significant Characteristics of the Resurrection
- Christ rose as a public person, representing His people; when He rose, the church rose in Him (Eph. 2:6).
- Christ raised Himself by His own power, showing He is true God and has power to raise His church.
- Accompanied by an earthquake, showing He lost no power by death and remains Lord over all.
- Other wonders occurred (e.g., saints raised—Matt. 27:52–53), showing Christ’s resurrection grants new life to those dead in sin.
- Christ is the firstborn from the dead; saints follow in resurrection (Col. 1:18).
3. Comforts of Christ’s Resurrection for Believers
- Secures justification for believers; reconciled by His death, saved by His life (Rom. 4:25; 5:10).
- Means of sanctification; believers freed from sin’s power and enabled to live unto God (Rom. 6:4–5).
- Assurance of the church’s resurrection; Christ’s resurrection guarantees believers’ future resurrection (Rom. 8:11; 1 Cor. 15:20).
- The godly will rise to eternal glory, sharing in Christ’s victory and enjoying His kingdom.
