In a thrilling match, South Africa beat India at the ACA-VDCA stadium at PM Palem in Visakhapatnam on 9 October, scoring their third win in the ICC Women's Cricket World Championship.

Choosing to field first after winning the toss, the South Africa team restricted India to 251 runs. India was in trouble when it lost six wickets for just for 102 runs.

However, brilliant performance by Richa Ghosh, who made 94 runs in 77 balls, helped India make a decent score of 251 runs.

Chasing the target, South Africa finished it in 48.5 overs. South Africa player Klerk steered the team to victory with her superb show.

K S Viswanathan, Commissioner of VMRDA, has been transferred and posted as the Director of the Information and Public Relations Department. The State government issued orders to this effect on 9 October.

Viswanathan, a 2017 batch IAS officer, took over as the VMRDA Commissioner in July 2024.

Viswanathan had also served as the Assistant Collector of Anantapur, Sub-Collector of Narasapur, Joint Collector of Prakasam and Visakhapatnam.

Eighteen of the 64 girls of the tribal welfare residential school for girls at Kurupam in Parvatipuram district, who have been admitted to KGH due to illness, were discharged from the hospital in the last two days.

According to hospital Superintendent Vani, 46 girls are still getting treatment.

Over 100 students of the school fell ill, reportedly due to viral fever and jaundice. With the condition of several students turning serious, as many as 64 were admitted to KGH.

Ministers Vangalapudi Anitha and Sandhyarani visited the hospital and directed officials to ensure better treatment for the children.

The government has set up a committee to probe into the incident and also to review the conditions at the school.

Student dies in accident near Siripuram junction

An Intermediate student died on the spot in an accident near Siripuram junction of Visakhapatnam on 5 October night.
According to reports, the accident occurred when the motorbike he was riding hit a divider.

An Italian died while swimming at the Yarada beach in Visakhapatnam on 5 October.

According to reports, a group of 16 Italians, who were on a trip to the city, visited Yarada beach. While they were swimming, two of them swept away by a strong wave. The marine police and life guards brought them to the shore and could save one, while the other died.

In a spirited celebration of World Heart Day, students from various educational institutions gathered on Beach Road to participate in a heart health awareness walk on 29 September. The event, held early in the morning, was graced by distinguished Cardiologists - Dr Karunakar Padhy, Dr Hemanth Kumar Behara, Dr Suresh, Dr Ravi Kumar, Dr Ranganayakulu, Dr Srikar, Dr Siva Kumar, Dr Srikanth, Dr N. Raju, Dr Aswin Kumar Panda, and Dr Archana Behara. They were also joined by the Cardiac Anaesthesia team, which aimed to promote cardiovascular wellness and encourage the public to adopt heart-healthy habits. With banners held high and slogans echoing through the sea breeze, the students made a powerful statement about the importance of heart health.

Students from schools and colleges across Visakhapatnam joined hands, quite literally, to form a human chain that stretched along the scenic coastline. Dressed in blue and white, the participants walked in rhythm, accompanied by faculty members, healthcare professionals, and local volunteers. The walk is planned from Kalimatha Temple to YMCA, covering around 2 km, with an engaging flash mob performance in between.

In addition to the walk, the event featured interactive sessions that highlighted the dangers of sedentary lifestyles, poor dietary choices, and smoking. Transitioning from awareness to action, students distributed pamphlets containing tips for maintaining a healthy heart, such as regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and stress management.

Free entry for tourist spots today

The VMRDA has offered free entry to the tourist spots being maintained by it on 27 September on the occasion of World Tourism Day.
According to VMRDA Chairman Pranav Gopal and Commissioner Viswanathan, there will be no entry fee for VMRDA park, Kailasagiri, Central Park, Telugu Museum, Submarine Museum, TU-142 aircraft museum, and UH-3H Helicopter Museum.
They have appealed to the people to avail of the opportunity.
