A food quality testing centre will come up in Visakhapatnam soon.

According to State Medical and Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav, such centres will also be set up in Guntur, Tirupati and Kurnool. The labs will be established at an estimated cost of Rs. 100 crore.

It may be mentioned here that food safety teams conducted a series of raids on hotels and restaurants in Visakhapatnam recently and found the storing of food in fridges and the use of colours while preparing food. Moreover, kitchens were found to be unhygienic.

‘Stree Shakthi’ (free bus travel scheme for women) was launched by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Andhra Pradesh on 15 August at Undavalli near Vijayawada.

The Chief Minister handed over a zero fare ticket to a woman and travelled in the bus up to Pandit Nehru Bus Station in Vijayawada.

Women, girls, and transgender people can travel without any fare in P***e Velugu, Ultra P***e Velugu, City Ordinary, Express and Metro Express buses.

Joy Jemima, who was arrested and released on a bail, in a honeytrap case, was taken into custody again following a complaint lodged in the MVP Colony police station.
Facing charges of extracting money from the rich using a honey trap, Joy Jemima was earlier arrested in December last by the Visakhapatnam police. Along with her, several others were taken into custody.

Even as the investigation is on in the case, the woman and other persons got bail.

Joy Jemima was arrested by the MVP Colony police on 14 August after her release the previous day. The arrest was made following a complaint made by an individual of West Bengal. In the complaint, the person alleged that he was trapped and cheated by the woman.

A woman drowned at sea, and a youth went missing at RK Beach in Visakhapatnam on 14 August.

According to reports, a family came to the city from Hyderabad for a marriage function. The family members, when they visited the beach, went into the sea to take a bath. Of them, a woman and a youth were dragged inside by strong waves.

A man from Odisha, who rushed to rescue them, was missing.

While the woman drowned, the youth was saved by the police.

Details of the deceased are yet to be known.

A pregnant woman, aged around 35 years, was found brutally murdered at Banjari near Sabbavaram in Visakhapatnam district on 14 August.

According to reports, the woman was allegedly strangulated to death after her hands and legs were bound. Later, the body was set on fire.

The police pressed the dog squad and the Clues team into service to crack the case.

The identity of the woman is yet to be established.

The Visakhapatnam police arrested a person working as a relationship manager in Noida, on 13 August in connection with a cyber fraud case.

According to the police, a retired professor in the city was cheated to the tune of over Rs. 49 lakh. The relationship manager, Satish Kumar, allegedly helped the cyber criminals by giving the bank account details of the retired professor to the gang. A laptop and a mobile were seized from the accused person. He was remanded for 15 days when produced in court.

The Andhra Pradesh government has issued orders allowing the exhibitors of War2, starring Junior NTR and Hrithik Roshan, to increase the ticket rates for the first ten days.

The hike will be Rs. 100 each on the tickets in multiplexes and Rs. 75 each in single-screen theatres.

For the special show to be screened at 5 a.m. on the release day (14 August), the ticket rate has been fixed at Rs. 500 each.

Similarly, permission has been given for an increase in ticket rates of the Rajanikanth-starrer, Coolie.

Both films are hitting the screens worldwide on 14 August.

In a heart-rending incident, a 15-month-old baby boy died when he was run over by a car at Urvasi junction in Kancharapalem of Visakhapatnam on 12 August night.

According to reports, the boy, Varsh*t, was being taken to a hospital by his mother when the incident occurred.
The boy fell from his mother’s arms when the vehicle hit her. Later, the car moved past, running over the boy who died on the spot. The driver was beaten up by angry locals and handed over to the police.

A woman died and another person sustained injuries when a bus rammed into a platform at Dwaraka Bus Station in Visakhapatnam on 11 August. Brake failure is said to be the cause of the accident.

The deceased woman and others were waiting for the Palasa-bound bus. She was identified as Mutyalamma of Pothanapalli in Vizianagaram district. She came to Visakhapatnam to attend a function at her daughter’s house in Gajuwaka.

The accident occurred while she was waiting for a bus to return to her village.

Starbucks will soon feature Araku Coffee in their menus as the Andhra Pradesh government has signed 21 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to boost tribal development. In addition to the MoUs, Tata Consumer Company will promote tribal and forest-based products on the occasion of World Tribal Day in collaboration with Girijan Cooperative Corporation (GCC) on a domestic and international stage too.

On the other hand, the Coffee Brand and the ITC signed MoUs to improve and expand the coffee plantations in tribal areas with ITDA, or the International Tribal Development Agency. OYO Homes and Homey Huts have declared to establish homestays in the tribal areas to boost the tourism sector of the region. This will help the tourists gain an authentic experience and provide a livelihood to the local tribals.

The MoUs were signed in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu in the Alluri Seetharama Raju district. The primary aim of these agreements is to provide livelihood, tourism promotion, expansion in agriculture, produce more forest products and market them in an effective manner.
