GoCoop, an artisan-first organisation, is bringing GoSwadeshi to Vizag - a direct-from-weaver exhibition for the very first time! If you love handwoven and handcrafted sarees, apparel, accessories, shirts and more, this is the place to be this week.

Bringing together artisans from across India, GoSwadeshi features authentic, verified artisanal products across 40+ stalls, giving Vizagites easy access to weaves like authentic Ikat, Jamdani or Banarasi. Apart from the exhibition, you can explore its offerings on the website www.GoSwadeshi.in.

The High Court has struck down the GO issued providing 34 per cent reservation for the Backward Classes in the local body elections quoting Supreme Court order that total reservations should not exceed 50 per cent.

The government had issued two GOs providing 34 per cent quota for BCs in the rural local bodies and 33.33 per cent in the urban areas.

It also dismissed the YSRCP plea for stay on elections pending census in the State.

The court directed the government to initiate process to hold local body elections in six months.

Oil companies have increased the price of commercial gas cylinders of 19 kg.

With effect from today (October 1), the hike is Rs. 62.50 on each commercial cylinder. Now, the cost ranges from Rs. 2750 to Rs. 2,920 in different cities.

In Visakhapatnam, it is Rs. 2896.50 after the hike.

Cleanliness drive will be taken up on a big scale in Visakhapatnam as part of 'Swachhata hi seva' between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on October 1.

With the slogan 'Ek din...ek ganta...ek saath', the programme will be taken up at beach, parks and other places in the city.

Liquid steel at the SMS 1 of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant spilled on to the ground on Tuesday. However, none was injured in the incident as alert workers averted a major accident.

The incident took place as the slide gate of the ladle carrying the liquid did not close properly.
A similar accident occurred in the plant two months ago.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will launch the HSL's first fleet support ship in Visakhapatnam on October 6.

Built at a cost of over Rs. 19,000 crore for the Indian Navy, the fleet support ship helps replenish Indian Navy warships at sea with fuel, water, food, and am******on.

It will also play a key role in humanitarian aid and disaster relief operations and emergency evacuations.
The fleet support ship is one among the five orders secured by the HSL.

The Union Defence Minister will also launch a huge crane. With a lifting capacity of 300 tonnes, the crane has been purchased by HSL at a cost of Rs. 280 crore.
