In a spirited celebration of World Heart Day, students from various educational institutions gathered on Beach Road to participate in a heart health awareness walk on 29 September. The event, held early in the morning, was graced by distinguished Cardiologists - Dr Karunakar Padhy, Dr Hemanth Kumar Behara, Dr Suresh, Dr Ravi Kumar, Dr Ranganayakulu, Dr Srikar, Dr Siva Kumar, Dr Srikanth, Dr N. Raju, Dr Aswin Kumar Panda, and Dr Archana Behara. They were also joined by the Cardiac Anaesthesia team, which aimed to promote cardiovascular wellness and encourage the public to adopt heart-healthy habits. With banners held high and slogans echoing through the sea breeze, the students made a powerful statement about the importance of heart health.
Students from schools and colleges across Visakhapatnam joined hands, quite literally, to form a human chain that stretched along the scenic coastline. Dressed in blue and white, the participants walked in rhythm, accompanied by faculty members, healthcare professionals, and local volunteers. The walk is planned from Kalimatha Temple to YMCA, covering around 2 km, with an engaging flash mob performance in between.
In addition to the walk, the event featured interactive sessions that highlighted the dangers of sedentary lifestyles, poor dietary choices, and smoking. Transitioning from awareness to action, students distributed pamphlets containing tips for maintaining a healthy heart, such as regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and stress management.
