Realme C17 Spotted on Geekbench, May Pack Snapdragon 460 SoC and 6GB of RAM

Realme C17 will join the recently launched Realme C12 and Realme C15 phones in the company’s portfolio.

HIGHLIGHTS

Realme C17 listing has been spotted on Geekbench 5

Listing tips 6GB RAM and Android 10

It could be an upcoming addition to the Realme C series

Realme C17, an unannounced Realme phone, has been spotted on Geekbench. Realme has been launching new smartphones at a rather fast pace in the budget segment. The company recently launched the Realme C12 and the Realme C15 as a part of its budget-friendly C series. With the recent spotting of the Realme C17 on Geekbench, the phone is expected to arrive in the coming weeks. The Geekbench listing also indicates some of the key specifications of the device, tipping that it will sport Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 SoC.

The Realme C17 was spotted on Geekbench 5 with RMX2101 as the model number. A device with this model number was also spotted on a certification website earlier that has indicated that it will be sold as the Realme C17. The Geekbench listing tips some of the key specifications of the smartphone. It indicates that the Realme C17 will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 SoC and get 6GB of RAM onboard. The listing on Geekbench also suggests that the smartphone will run on Android 10 out of the box.

Realme recently launched the Realme C12 and the Realme C15 in the budget segment and priced them at Rs. 8,999 and Rs. 9,999, respectively. The Realme C17 could be positioned above these two smartphones if it follows the same naming scheme.
Realme could also launch a lower RAM variant for the Realme C17 than the one that has been spotted to keep the pricing aggressive for this segment. Realme could also plonk in a bigger 6,000mAh battery in the Realme C17 just like it did with the Realme C12 and Realme C15. But that is speculation at this point.

Google has started rolling out its promised Wear OS update for the Android-based wearable Suunto 7. The tech giant brings improved performance and simplified pairing process with the latest update. Google confirms that Suunto 7 is the first wearable to receive the Wear OS update. More Android-based wearable manufacturers will receive a similar update in the coming months. This new Wear OS update was detailed back in August as part of the company's series. Google had said that the rollout will begin in autumn this year, and it has managed to fulfil its promise.

The tech giant has taken to forums to confirm the commencement of the Wear OS update roll out on the first wearable – Suunto 7. As mentioned when it was announced last month, the new Wear OS update will include faster app startup time, with boot and app launch times apparently seeing up to 20 percent speed improvement. The update will also bring changes to watch controls making it easier to manage different watch modes and workouts.

A new simpler pairing process has been introduced with the latest Wear OS update. The forum post reads, “Setting up your Wear OS smartwatch has never been speedier! We have made enhancements to the pairing process, meaning you will be able to use your new smartwatch more reliably.”

Lastly, the Wear OS update also brings better battery life. The post adds that the new Wear OS allows users to ‘do more throughout the day and enjoy a longer battery life on your smartwatch.'

In August, Google also said that new Wear OS update will bring support for Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 and Snapdragon Wear 4100+ platforms.

A tipster has shared an image on Weibo that suggests Oppo Reno 4 SE specifications.

HIGHLIGHTS

Oppo Reno 4 SE was earlier rumoured to use MediaTek Dimensity 800

New Oppo phone seems to have a triple rear camera setup

Oppo Reno 4 SE has so far been a part of the rumour mill

Oppo Reno 4 SE will come with MediaTek Dimensity 720 SoC, a tipster has suggested on Weibo. The Oppo phone was previously claimed to include either MediaTek Dimensity 800 or Dimensity 800U SoC. If we look at the rumour mill, the Oppo Reno 4 SE will be the next model in the Reno 4 series after the Reno 4 Pro and the standard Reno 4. The new smartphone could come with triple rear cameras and feature a hole-punch display design. The Oppo Reno 4 SE is also quite likely to be priced below the Reno 4 Pro and Reno 4.

Oppo Reno 4 SE specifications (expected)

Alongside the new Dimensity SoC, the freshly shared image suggests that the Oppo Reno 4 SE could come with a 6.43-inch full-HD+ (1,080x2,400 pixels) AMOLED display and 180Hz touch response rate. The smartphone also appears to have a 48-megapixel primary camera sensor, along with an 8-megapixel secondary sensor and a 2-megapixel tertiary sensor on the rear camera setup - alongside a 32-megapixel selfie camera sensor at the front. Further, the Oppo Reno 4 SE could include a 4,300mAh battery with 65W fast charging support.

Facebook, Google, Twitter Urged by EU to Do More Against Fake News

Fake news related to COVID-19 has accelerated calls for social media to be more proactive.

HIGHLIGHTS

The commission vice president called for more action to counter new risks

The companies including Mozilla signed up to the code in 2018

Microsoft and TikTok subsequently joined the group

Two years after agreeing to a self-regulatory code of practice to tackle disinformation, Facebook, Alphabet's Google, Twitter and other tech rivals must try harder to be more effective, the European Commission said on Thursday.

Fake news related to COVID-19 has accelerated calls for social media to be more proactive in combating the issue.

The companies, including Mozilla and trade bodies for the advertising industry, signed up to the code in 2018 in a bid to stave off more heavy-handed regulation. Microsoft and TikTok subsequently joined the group.

There are, however, several shortcomings in the code following an assessment of its first year in operation, the commission said, according to a report seen by Reuters.

"These can be grouped in four broad categories: inconsistent and incomplete application of the code across platforms and member states, lack of uniform definitions, existence of several gaps in the coverage of the code commitments, and limitations intrinsic to the self-regulatory nature of the code," the report said.

"As we also witness new threats and actors the time is ripe to go further and propose new measures. The platforms need to become more accountable and transparent. They need to open up and provide better access to data, among others," Jourova said.

Jourova is currently working on a European Democracy Action Plan to make democracy more resilient to digital threats.

The commission is also set to propose new rules called the Digital Services Act by the end of the year which will increase social media's responsibilities and liability for content on their platforms.

WhatsApp Spotted Working on Catalogue Shortcut, New Call Button Features in Latest Android Beta: REPORT

WhatsApp’s new call button looks to merge voice and video call icons into one.

HIGHLIGHTS

WhasApp new call button is under development

The Catalogue shortcut will sit next to the call button

This shortcut will only appear in business chats with a catalogue

WhatsApp is reportedly working on several improvements, and some of them were spotted in the code of the latest Android beta. This includes a new Catalogue Shortcut for business accounts enabling quick access to their product portfolio. There is also a new ‘Add WhatsApp Doodles' option that is under development allowing users to make their solid wallpaper look a bit more fancy. Separately, a new ‘Call' button is also under works. This new call button looks to slightly tweak the process of making video and voice calls inside the app.

WABetaInfo, which tracks new features in WhatsApp, dug into the latest WhatsApp 2.20.200.3 beta for Android to spot several new features. The first one is the possible addition of a quick shortcut in business chats, when the business has set a catalogue. This catalogue icon will be added next to the Call button whenever it arrives. This new shortcut is under development and will not be seen even if users are on the latest beta.
Separately, WhatsApp is also working on a new Call button that will combine the video and voice call shortcuts into one. Currently, we see separate icons in chats for video and voice calls, but this new button looks to combine the two, and when you tap on the button, it will allow choosing the call type. This new shortcut could tweak the process of calls a little bit. It is under development and is reported to be available in a future build.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 update will be first pushed to the Bluetooth versions and then to the LTE versions.

HIGHLIGHTS

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 gets Fall Detection

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 is also getting smart reply

AR Emoji Stickers can be selected from the smartwatch itself

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 has got a new update that brings several new features associated to health, connectivity, and communication. The development was shared by the company on its website and it states that the update will be available starting today. Some of the new features that have been added to the Galaxy Watch Active 2 include Running Analysis, VO2 Max, smart reply, AR Emoji Stickers, and more. The Galaxy Watch Active 2 was released back in August of last year.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 will start receiving the update from today, September 10. It brings Running Analysis that can provide information like asymmetry, regularity, stiffness, vertical oscillation, and ground contact time. This will help users improve their performance and also reduce injury, Samsung says.

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 can now measure VO2 max that indicates the maximum amount of oxygen a person can utilise while working out.

Another new feature added to the smartwatch is Fall Detection that sends an SOS to as many as four pre-designated contacts when it detects a potential fall. In terms of communication, you can now view emoticons and photos right on the smartwatch. Galaxy Watch Active 2 owners can also use the Smart Reply feature to send replies on the go. When receiving a message, the smartwatch will now show your chat history to pick up where the conversation left off. AR Emoji Stickers and Bitmoji Stickers can be selected straight from the smartwatch.

Asteroid 2020 QL2, Bigger Than a Football Field, to Fly by Earth on September 14

Asteroid 2020 QL2 has almost no chances of hitting the Earth, according to NASA.

HIGHLIGHTS

Asteroid 2020 QL2 will pass by Earth on September 14

It will come within a distance of 4.2 million miles

Despite its size, it has almost no chances of hitting Earth

Asteroid 2020 QL2 that could be up to 120 meters (394 feet) in diameter is expected to safely fly past Earth on September 14, as per NASA's Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS). The asteroid is expected to fly past at a speed of nearly 38,620 kmph (24,000 mph) and come within a distance of 6.8 million kms (4.2 million miles). The asteroid could be as big as the iconic London Eye or bigger than a professional football field.

The asteroid's size could be anywhere between 53 meters (174 feet) and 120 meters, according to NASA. This makes it one of the potentially largest rocks on the space agency's Near-Earth Object (NEO) Earth Close Approaches list. Asteroid 2020 QL2 is currently travelling at 10.5 kilometres per second (6.52 miles per second).

Considering its size and close proximity to Earth, Asteroid 2020 QL2 is considered “potentially hazardous” by NASA. However, it has almost no chances of hitting the Earth.
Space objects that come within 0.05 astronomical units (4.6 million miles) and measure more than 140 meters (460 feet) in diameter are labelled “potentially hazardous,” as per CNEOS. Going by this, the Asteroid 2020 QL2 comes close to be considered the same. However, considering its current path, the asteroid will pass at a distance roughly ten times the distance between the Moon and the Earth. Hence, it has almost no chances of hitting Earth

NASA data indicates that Asteroid 2020 QL2 was first sighted on August 14 this year, and most recently sighted on September 3.

Times Internet is growing despite influx of US t ech firms in India

Times internet :-
said on Thursday it reaches more than 557 million active users in India each month and over 111 million users a day as several of its digital offerings demonstrated strong growth in the past year.

The Indian conglomerate — which operates over three-dozen properties, including on-demand streaming services MX Player and Gaana, and newspapers Times of India and Economic Times — added 107 million monthly active users in the financial year that ended in March, it said.

Its platform clocked over 67 billion page views in FY 2020, up from 47 billion from the year prior.

MX Player, which has now amassed over 200 million monthly active users, and Gaana, which now reaches 185 million monthly active users, grew 75% in the year, Satyan Gajwani
Founded over 20 years ago, Times Internet had a huge headstart over nearly every firm that dominates the digital landscape today. But it largely failed to cash in on that for several years, critics say. Under the current leadership, however, the firm has followed a steady path and grown.

Gajwani acknowledged that some of Times Internet’s offerings weren’t in great shape at the beginning of the last decade. “So we put a lot more emphasis on just product quality during 2013 to 2016. The next few years after that we also bought and built good products.”

“We’ve sold products or exited products where we didn’t think we could be competitive. We’ve got a reasonably strong portfolio now,” he added.

The most recent phase of Times Internet’s growth, said Gajwani, is the push to find revenue channels beyond ads. Gaana, MX Player, ET Prime (ad-free tier for Economic Times) and Times Prime (which bundles and resells a range of third-party subscription offerings) are helping it find subscribers, while MensXP’s e-commerce section, ETMoney, MagicBricks, GradeUp and Dineout are driving transactions.

Moto E7 Plus full specs, price, and images surface

A couple of renders of the Moto E7 Plus leaked last month along with a few specs, which gave us a good idea of what to expect from Motorola's affordable smartphone. But the latest leak leaves little to the imagination, as it reveals the full specs and price of the Moto E7 Plus along with a set of new press renders.

The Moto E7 Plus will boot Android 10 and have a Snapdragon 460 SoC under the hood with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, but it will also come with a microSD card slot for storage expansion.

The smartphone will sport a 6.5" LCD of 1600x720 pixels, that will have a notch up top for the 8MP selfie camera. Around the back, you'll get a 48MP primary camera with Night Vision, which will be joined by a 2MP depth sensor. Below these cameras is a fingerprint reader for biometric authentication.

On the right side of the E7 Plus is the power key and volume rocker, along with a third key which might be a dedicated Google Assistant button. The smartphone will weigh 200 grams and pack a 5,000 mAh battery that will draw power through a microUSB port at up to 10W.

The Moto E7 Plus will also come with a 3.5mm headphone jack and is confirmed to have at least two color options. The 64GB model will be priced at €149 in Europe, but it will be cheaper in Germany.

There's no word from Motorola about the Moto E7 Plus yet, but since the Moto E6 Plus was announced last year in September, we expect the E7 Plus to go official any time now.
