The PTBN Engineering Desk

The PTBN Engineering Desk The Engineering Desk formerly known as PTBN PTBN also works towards providing a better alumni-student connectivity.

Ever since the inception of NIT’s some new, some converted from REC’s and their recognition as premier technical institutes of the country, every young mind who has been privileged enough to have got admission into these hallowed halls of knowledge, has, at some point or the other, felt an incredible pride at being labelled as an “NITian”. However, there was no sense.as such, of a collective sense

of pride in belonging to the greater NITian community; there was a lack of a feeling of identification with all the NIT’s other than one’s own. And hence, to counter this, PTBN was conceptualized as an Inter-NIT Network, to forge and reinforce the bonds based on a shared identity of being amongst the elite of the country between the 31 odd NIT’s. Founded in October 2013, PTBN started out as an entertainment page on a social networking site, meant to provide comic relief to the NITian community, and also to raise awareness on various issues; but mainly, to unify the dispersed NITian student diaspora. However, its immense popularity and reach prompted the PTBN team to launch its very own website, in order to better coordinate and efficiently cater to the needs of NITians. PTBN strives to unite NITians, cutting across geographical limits-joining lives, bridging dreams.

Not an educational post but worth sharing just read it.

We all know that Kareena Kapoor is expecting a second child.
We know that Anushka Sharma is expecting her first child and her husband, India Cricket Team Captain Virat Kohli has come back from Australia to be with her.
We also know which actor wears which designer clothes.
But do we care to know who was Cadet Amit Raj?
We don’t.
I don't completely blame you for this.
We all waste our news appetite on junk news which never adds any value to our society.
On 3rd of Dec, Cadet Amit Raj of Sainik School Purulia, was at his hometown Nalanda in Bihar while jogging around 6 am he heard people shouting in the neighborhood. He stepped out to see that a neighboring house was on fire. Without thinking twice he entered the house to save 3 children who were trapped inside. He sustained 85% burns by the time he saved the first two children but still decided to save the third one. He was in no condition to save the third child but still entered the house to save the third in lieu if receiving 95% burns himself. To his heroics, all three children were saved. He was admitted to a nearby hospital and was later shifted to Safadarjang Hospital, Delhi. The braveheart lost his life on 13 December 2020.
Not even single media house covered this story.
Let us individually honour this brave soul by using the power of social media. Because only this will help us imbibe the values of sacrifice that can build a

has taken a step towards self-reliance and has prepared bullet proof sheets for army vehicles. After applying these sheets, no bullet, pellet or any metal will be able to cross the vehicle. MNIT claims that along with the soldiers, it will also protect the vehicles. Heavy metals collided with this sheet and fell down in trials. The team says that it will also have its layer under vehicles. Shrapnel, pellets or other metals produced by the sharp blast will not pierce the sheet. Being flexible, it can bend in any shape.
Prof. Amar Patnaik of MNIT's Department of Mechanical Engineering and his team had been doing research on it for the last 2 years. Prof. Amar Patnaik said that it is a mix product of polymer and ceramic for defense. Bullet proof sheets commonly available will reduce its weight and cost by about 40%.

For this, the sheets are made from fiber reinforced fiber composite and ceramic. Due to its flexibility of manufacturing, many types of bullet proof products can be made from this material.
