On 10th October 2025, I had the honour of attending the General Assembly of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) at Ross University, Bridgetown, Barbados, alongside Hon’ble Speaker Shri Mingma Norbu Sherpa. The Assembly brought together delegates and representatives from 121 CPA branches across the Commonwealth, making it a truly global platform for parliamentary dialogue and collaboration.
The session, presided over by Senator Hon. Reginald Farley, President of the Senate of Barbados and CPA President (2024–2025), featured important discussions on strengthening good governance, democracy and international cooperation among member nations.
The Assembly deliberated on various reports including the CPA Membership Report, Audit and Financial Statements, Budget for 2026 and committee presentations from CPwD, CWP and CPA Small Branches. It also approved the Chief Pleas of Sark as a new CPA member.
A special highlight of the session was the announcement of South Africa as the host nation for the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference, which will carry forward the spirit of dialogue and partnership fostered in Barbados.
The thematic debate on “The Commonwealth: A Global Partner” saw enriching contributions from leaders around the world, including Shri Om Birla, Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha and Shri Harivansh, Hon’ble Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha, among others.
The 68th CPC concluded with a grand Awards Ceremony and Closing Dinner hosted by Hon’ble Prime Minister of Barbados, Ms. Mia Amor Mottley, at Ilaro Court marking the end of a truly memorable and meaningful conference.
It was an honour to represent Sikkim and India on this global stage, reaffirming our commitment to the values of democracy, inclusion and cooperation.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang-Golay for his continued guidance, trust and for providing this invaluable opportunity to represent our State at this prestigious international forum.
