Urgent Appeal: Genocidal Assault on Suwayda, Syria

Suwayda province in southern Syria—home to the country’s Druze minority—is currently under a full-scale genocidal assault by regime forces and allied militias, including factions with known ISIS affiliations.
The attack began on Sunday, 13 July, with large-scale military mobilization from across Syria. While some regime and militia units gathered in the north of Suwayda, the primary assault came from the west via the Daraa region. Villages such as Al-Mazraa, Sameeh, Door, Walqa, and Dwaira were heavily bombarded with artillery, seized, and subjected to brutal atrocities: homes were looted and burned, and civilians who remained behind were summarily executed.
By Monday afternoon, 14 July, the offensive had reached the outskirts of Suwayda city (population over 150,000). That night, the city was indiscriminately shelled until the morning of 15 July, forcing a mass displacement of civilians toward southern towns—currently the only areas not under full regime control, but still under imminent threat.
On Tuesday morning, Druze spiritual leader Sheikh Hikmat Al-Hijri publicly called on residents to lay down their arms and welcome regime forces, based on government assurances that those who complied would not be harmed. Tragically, the first group that surrendered was immediately executed by regime militias. Sheikh Al-Hijri later issued a second video denouncing this betrayal.
By Tuesday afternoon, regime forces stormed hospitals and attempted to murder wounded defenders. Street battles continue inside the city, with remaining residents resisting block by block.
From Tuesday night through Wednesday, 16 July, shelling intensified. Tanks have surrounded the National Hospital, where children and civilians were killed by indiscriminate artillery strikes. This morning, Dr. Tala Amer was killed inside the hospital. Yesterday, another doctor, Dr. Faten Hilal was also killed while she was attempting to reach the hospital to support an exhausted medical team.
Electricity, water, and all basic services have been cut. Civilians are trapped. The situation is catastrophic.
If no urgent intervention is made, this will become one of the largest genocides in modern history.
We, thousands of residents and eyewitnesses, attest to the truth of this message and call upon international media, human rights organizations, and the global community to act immediately.
This is a deliberate attempt to annihilate a peaceful community of 700,000 people, targeted solely for their Druze identity and their steadfast refusal to submit to tyranny.

نداء عاجل: هجوم إبادي على محافظة السويداء، سوريا

تتعرض محافظة السويداء في جنوب سوريا – موطن الأقلية الدرزية في البلاد – لهجوم إبادي شامل من قبل قوات النظام والميليشيات المتحالفة معه، بما في ذلك فصائل معروفة بارتباطها بتنظيم داعش.
بدأ الهجوم يوم الأحد، 13 تموز، بحشد عسكري واسع النطاق من مختلف أنحاء سوريا. وبينما تمركزت بعض قوات النظام والميليشيات في شمال السويداء، جاء الهجوم الرئيسي من الغرب عبر منطقة درعا. وقد تعرضت قرى مثل المزرعة، سميع، الدور، ولغا، ودويرة لقصف مدفعي كثيف، وتمت السيطرة عليها وارتكبت فيها فظائع مروعة: حيث نُهبت المنازل وأُحرقت، وأُعدم المدنيون الذين بقوا فيها ميدانيًا.
بحلول بعد ظهر يوم الإثنين، 14 تموز، وصلت القوات المهاجمة إلى أطراف مدينة السويداء (يُقدّر عدد سكانها بأكثر من 150,000 نسمة). وفي تلك الليلة، تعرّضت المدينة لقصف عشوائي استمر حتى صباح الثلاثاء، 15 تموز، ما أدى إلى نزوح جماعي للسكان نحو البلدات الجنوبية، وهي المناطق الوحيدة التي لم تسقط بعد تحت السيطرة الكاملة للنظام، لكنها لا تزال مهددة بشكل وشيك.
في صباح الثلاثاء، وجّه الزعيم الروحي للطائفة الدرزية، الشيخ حكمت الهجري، نداءً علنيًا لسكان المدينة يدعوهم فيه لتسليم أسلحتهم واستقبال قوات النظام، بناءً على وعود حكومية بعدم التعرض لمن يستسلم. ولكن، وبكل أسف، تم إعدام أول مجموعة استجابت لهذا النداء على الفور من قبل ميليشيات النظام. لاحقًا، أصدر الشيخ الهجري تسجيلًا ثانيًا يدين فيه هذا الغدر.
بحلول مساء الثلاثاء، اقتحمت قوات النظام المستشفيات وحاولت تصفية الجرحى من المدافعين. ولا تزال المعارك مستمرة داخل شوارع المدينة، حيث يقاوم من تبقى من السكان حيًا بحي.
من مساء الثلاثاء وحتى صباح الأربعاء، 16 تموز، تصاعد القصف بشكل غير مسبوق. وقد طوّقت الدبابات المستشفى الوطني، حيث سقط العديد من الأطفال والمدنيين جراء القصف العشوائي. وفي صباح هذا اليوم، استشهدت الدكتورة طلال عامر داخل المستشفى. وفي اليوم السابق، قُتلت أيضًا الدكتورة فاتن هلال أثناء محاولتها الوصول إلى المستشفى لمساعدة الطاقم الطبي المنهك.
تم قطع الكهرباء والمياه وكافة الخدمات الأساسية. المدنيون محاصرون، والوضع كارثي بكل المقاييس.
إذا لم يتم التدخل فورًا، فإن ما يحدث سيُسجل كواحدة من أبشع المجازر الجماعية في التاريخ الحديث.
نحن، آلاف السكان والشهود، نشهد بصحة ما ورد في هذا النداء، ونناشد وسائل الإعلام العالمية، ومنظمات حقوق الإنسان، والمجتمع الدولي، بالتحرك العاجل.
إن ما يجري هو محاولة متعمّدة لإبادة جماعية ضد مجتمع مسالم يضم أكثر من نسمىن 700,000 نسمة، لا لشيء سوى لانتمائهم الديني الدرزي ورفضهم الخضوع للطغيان.
عار على العالم السماح باستمرار هذه الابادة.
