📢 BioMed Target Journal – August’s Most-Read Article

Our most-read article of August 2025 is “Trends and Medical Indications of Cesarean Section in the Public Health Sector.” This important study, conducted in Duhok City, Kurdistan Region, Iraq, revealed that cesarean section rates have risen from 31.5% in 2015 to 36.1% in 2023 — a 4.6% increase over eight years, surpassing the World Health Organization’s recommended range. The research identified previous cesarean delivery as the leading indication (35%), followed by fetal distress, breech presentation, oligohydramnios, and failure to induce labor for primary cases. Sociodemographic factors such as maternal age, education, and parity were significantly associated with the type of cesarean performed. The authors call for targeted strategies to reduce unnecessary primary and repeat cesareans while safeguarding maternal and neonatal health.
