The Great IPHC Bus Heist: How Duka Xpress Is Fuelled by Stolen Church Assets

JOHANNESBURG - 09 April 2026 | A massive shadow has been cast over the long-distance transport industry as evidence emerges that the "Duka Xpress" fleet, a prominent cross-border bus service, is operating using assets allegedly stolen from the International Pentecost Holiness Church (IPHC).

The buses, primarily luxury Marcopolo G6 double-deckers, were originally purchased by the late IPHC leader, Comforter Glayton Modise, specifically to serve the millions of church members across Southern Africa. However, following his passing, these multi-million rand assets have reportedly been diverted into a private, illegal commercial enterprise.

The Zuurbekom Faction and the Illegal Operation
Inside sources and whistleblowers point directly to Mr. Leonard Modise, leader of the IPHC Zuurbekom faction, as the mastermind behind the current operation of these buses. It is alleged that under his direction, church property has been rebranded as "Duka Xpress" (often cited as "powered by Chihwa Tours") to generate private revenue, stripping the church of its rightful heritage.

Regulatory Concerns and Border Oversight:
The ongoing dispute over the ownership of these vehicles has raised significant questions regarding the oversight of cross-border transport. While these buses continue to operate between South Africa and Zimbabwe, critics point to potential gaps in the Department of Transport's registration and permit verification processes. If vehicles are being operated under contested ownership, it poses a challenge to South Africa's transport regulations and border security protocols.

The Role of Public Perception and Media Coverage:
The conflict within the IPHC has frequently played out in the public eye, with various factions using different platforms to assert their claims. This has led to a complex media landscape where conflicting narratives regarding the "theft" or "misappropriation" of church assets are common. Understanding the truth requires distinguishing between documented legal findings and the strategic portrayals presented by different interest groups.

Legal Framework and Accountability:
Legal experts suggest that the resolution of such disputes typically involves complex litigation regarding:
1. Asset Ownership: Determining the rightful title-holder of the fleet based on church constitutional law and purchase records.
2. Operating Permits: Ensuring that the entities managing the buses hold valid licenses from the National Land Transport Regulator.
3. Fiduciary Duty: Investigating whether those in positions of power have acted in the best interests of the church members for whom the assets were originally intended.

Despite the intensity of the allegations surrounding the "Duka Xpress" fleet, the South African judicial system and law enforcement agencies remain the primary avenues for addressing claims of illegal operation. Until formal legal conclusions are reached, the status of these buses remains a focal point of tension within the IPHC community and the broader logistics industry.

The Moria Pilgrimage: A Holy Facade for a Billionaire’s Coronation?

Polokwane - 06 April 2026 | While President Cyril Ramaphosa stood before congregants at the St Engenas Zion Christian Church (ZCC) this Easter Sunday, his rhetoric regarding the church as South Africa’s "moral compass" rang hollow for those watching the shifting tectonic plates of the country's political succession.

Behind the carefully curated images of spiritual humility and the rhythmic brass bands of the ZCC, a much more pragmatic and arguably more cynical, political play was unfolding. Sources close to the inner circles of the Union Buildings suggest that this visit was less about divine guidance and more about securing a "spiritual insurance policy" for the President’s chosen successor.

The Kingmaker and the Mining Magnate:
The "moral compass" narrative serves as a convenient smokescreen for what is alleged to be a long-term strategy to hand over the keys of the Republic to a specific titan of industry. This billionaire, a man whose vast wealth was forged in the shafts of the country’s gold and platinum mines and whose family ties to the President are well-documented, is increasingly being positioned as the only "safe" pair of hands for the 2029 transition.

By embedding himself within the St Engenas ZCC during the holiest weekend of the year, Ramaphosa is not just seeking a blessing; he is consolidating a massive voting bloc. The goal is clear: ensure the millions who wear the green and silver star remain loyal to a lineage that protects the current establishment.

The Shadow of Phala Phala:
The urgency behind this weekend's visit is whispered to be linked to the "Phala Phala" sword of Damocles. Allegations persist that the President’s desperation to install this mining magnate is rooted in a need for a successor who will ensure that the full weight of the Phala Phala judgements never sees the light of day.

A billionaire successor provides the financial and political fortress required to bury the ghosts of the past permanently.

A Crowded Pulpit of Contradictions:
Ramaphosa was not alone in this spiritual-political theatre. He was accompanied by a high-level ANC delegation, including Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, whose presence reinforced the state's grip on the province. Interestingly, the political spectrum was well-represented, with EFF leader Julius Malema and Floyd Shivambu also making the pilgrimage to Moria.

While they appear as rivals, their collective presence highlights a shared understanding: the ZCC is a kingmaker, and no politician can afford to ignore its influence.

The Great Deception: Spirituality as a Tool
The official government press releases would have the public believe that the President’s presence in Moria was a simple act of faith. This is the ultimate untruth.

Politicians of Ramaphosa’s calibre are acutely aware that in South Africa, politics and spirituality are not parallel lines, they are the same cord. They understand that the pulpit is the most powerful platform for social engineering. However, they keep the public in the dark about this alignment, preferring to present these visits as "cultural respect" rather than the calculated recruitment of a spiritual army to defend a billionaire’s path to the Presidency.

As the dust settles over Moria, the "moral compass" remains pointing exactly where the President needs it: toward a future that secures his legacy and protects his chosen heir, all under the guise of an Easter blessing.

Shadows Over Silo: The Disputed R200m Fleet and the Alleged Asset Stripping of the IPHC

PRETORIA - The legal battle over the International Pentecostal Holiness Church (IPHC) estate has taken a sharp turn, as new questions emerge regarding the legitimacy of Leonard Modise’s claim to a luxury vehicle fleet valued at over R200 million.

While Leonard maintains he legally purchased the assets from his late father’s estate, critics and church insiders point to a pattern of alleged "reckless" mismanagement and the suspicious timing of his court filings.

The Paper Trail Paradox:
At the heart of the dispute is Leonard’s spoliation application at the Pretoria High Court. While the papers claim a lawful sale agreement with executors and liquidators, legal observers have noted several inconsistencies. Most notably, the valuation of the high-end fleet which includes a Bentley Mulsanne, a BMW Rolls-Royce, and a Mercedes-Benz V221, appears disconnected from the estate’s broader financial obligations.

Legal analysts monitoring the proceedings have raised questions regarding the documentation submitted by Leonard Modise. The primary point of contention involves whether the sale agreements cited in the court papers align with the fiduciary duties of the estate's executors. Some observers suggest that the legal strategy employed in these filings appears specifically tailored to bypass standard probate delays, a move that critics argue prioritizes personal control over the collective interests of the IPHC congregation.

Contested Assets and the IPHC Legacy:
Beyond the luxury sedans, the dispute extends to the broader movable assets of the late Comforter Glayton Modise. Internal church reports have highlighted concerns regarding the management of the church’s transport infrastructure. There are ongoing disputes regarding the current location and operational status of several IPHC buses, with different factions within the church providing conflicting accounts of how these vehicles were reallocated or rebranded for cross-border operations.

The tension surrounding these assets is not a recent development. The transition of power following the 2016 passing of Glayton Modise has been marked by several high-profile incidents, including the contested occupation of the Zuurbekom (Silo) premises in October 2018.

During that period, significant damage to property and vehicles belonging to church members was reported, adding a layer of personal grievance to the technical legal battles over the R200 million fleet.

As the Pretoria High Court reviews the validity of the sale agreements, the case remains a focal point for the IPHC community. The court’s decision will likely determine whether the luxury fleet is treated as a private purchase or as a core component of the church’s historical heritage.

The outcome will have lasting implications for how the movable assets of the Modise estate are distributed and managed in the years to come.
Information regarding the current status of the spoliation application at the Pretoria High Court can be found through official South African legal databases and court rolls.

Out Of Touch: Why Mbeki and Mantashe’s Attacks on the Unemployed Prove It’s Time for the Elders to Retire

Pretoria - 01 April 2026 | South Africa’s political landscape is currently defined by a massive generational rift, sparked by a series of highly controversial statements from two of the ruling party’s most prominent titans.

Former President Thabo Mbeki and ANC National Chairperson Gwede Mantashe have come under heavy fire for blaming the country’s catastrophic unemployment crisis on the victims themselves. The uproar began when Thabo Mbeki publicly declared that millions of South Africans are unemployed simply because they lack the necessary skills for a modern economy.

Dismissing the gravity of the structural economic crisis, Mbeki said, "The reason they are unemployable is because they don't have the skills that the modern economy and society need." He went on to shame the government's social relief efforts, stating that boasting about millions on the SASSA system is not an achievement, but a failure.

Not to be outdone in alienating the public, Gwede Mantashe sparked equal outrage when he suggested during a television interview that young South Africans are essentially too lazy to look for work. Mantashe claimed that the youth are passive, refusing to apply for jobs and simply waiting for government handouts. He famously used a fishing metaphor, stating that the ANC gave people a fishing rod and cannot be expected to catch the fish for them as well.

Dismissing the Hustle of South Africa’s Youth:
These comments have triggered a wave of immense anger and frustration among South Africa's youth. For a generation drowning in an expanded unemployment rate that hovers near 43%, the words of Mbeki and Mantashe felt like a violent slap in the face.

Young people have taken to social media and the streets to express their fury, pointing out the sheer ignorance of both men. "How do you say to the youth of this country and mothers who are giving their kids money every day to go and apply for jobs that they are lazy?" asked ANC Youth League President Collen Malatji, who publicly rebuked Mantashe for speaking from a place of sheltered comfort.

South African youth are not sitting idle. They are spending their last Rands on data to send out hundreds of digital CVs, printing papers, and paying for transport to travel to interviews for jobs that often do not even exist. To have their continuous, exhausting efforts reduced to "laziness" and "unemployability" by wealthy politicians who have state-funded safety nets is an insult to their dignity.

A Call for Mandatory Retirement:
The unified consensus among angry young South Africans is that these ANC giants are completely out of touch with the modern material conditions of the country.

⚠️ Critics are now asking a hard question: Why are politicians allowed to cling to power and dictate the narrative well into their 70s and 80s, while ordinary working-class citizens are forced by law to retire at the age of 60 or 65?

Mbeki and Mantashe represent a bygone era. Mantashe himself admitted in his rant that he has never had to have a government look for a job for him, forgetting that his career started in a completely different economic era decades ago. They do not understand the digitized, gate-kept, and shrinking job market of 2026.

If South Africa is to progress, it cannot be led by those who look down on the struggles of its biggest demographic. It is time for these elders to step aside, retire, and let a younger, more empathetic generation take the wheel before their dismissive rhetoric completely destroys the hope of the nation's youth.

Fuel Shock: April 1 Price Hikes Hit SA as Middle East Conflict Rattles Markets

PRETORIA - 31 April 2026 | South African motorists are facing a "triple shock" this April as record-breaking fuel price increases take effect at midnight, driven by a volatile mix of global warfare and a weakening local currency.

Despite an emergency R3.00 per litre cut to the general fuel levy announced by National Treasury, the sheer scale of international oil price surges has left the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources with no choice but to implement some of the steepest hikes in the country's history.

Starting Wednesday, 1 April 2026, the retail price for both 93 and 95 octane petrol will rise by R3.06 per litre. Diesel users face an even harsher reality, with 0.05% sulphur increasing by R7.37 per litre and 0.005% sulphur by R7.51 per litre. These adjustments would have been R3.00 higher across the board had it not been for the temporary government intervention valid until 5 May.

The Iran-Israel War: A Global Energy Chokepoint
The primary catalyst for this crisis is the escalating military conflict between Israel and Iran, which entered its 32nd day today. The war has effectively impaired the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime chokepoint through which 20% of the world’s seaborne oil and one-fifth of its liquefied natural gas (LNG) flow.

• Supply Disruptions: Since joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran began on 28 February, global crude prices have soared, with Brent crude reaching over $116 per barrel this week.
• Production Losses: Key regional producers like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have been forced to suspend significant shipments, leading to a projected global oil supply plunge of 8 million barrels per day for March.
• Currency Pressure: The rand has simultaneously buckled under the geopolitical uncertainty, depreciating from R16.00 to roughly R16.64 per US dollar during the review period.

Analysis: The Risk of a Prolonged Conflict
If the conflict does not end immediately, economists warn of a "global surcharge" on nearly all consumer goods. A prolonged war could push Brent crude toward a "psychologically devastating" $150 per barrel, potentially tipping the world into stagflation, a combination of stagnant economic growth and high inflation.

Developing nations in the Global South are particularly vulnerable. In South Africa, the logistics sector which moves 80% of freight by road is expected to pass these costs directly to consumers, leading to a surge in food prices for basics like bread and milk.

The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) has cautioned that these inflationary pressures make previously anticipated interest rate cuts highly unlikely in the near term.

TSHWANE PARALYSED BY FUEL SHORTAGE WHILE MOYA CRACKS DOWN ON THE VULNERABLE
City of Tshwane | Official (Page)

PRETORIA - 31 MARCH 2026 | Thousands of commuters were left stranded this morning as the Tshwane Bus Service (TBS) ground to a halt, with all three major depots, C De Wet, Pretoria North, and East Lynne reporting they have completely run out of diesel.

While the city is literally standing still, Executive Mayor Nasiphi Moya and her administration face mounting accusations of focusing on "easy targets" like street vendors and spaza shops to mask a deeper crisis of corruption and incompetence.

The fuel crisis, which began manifesting on Monday, saw only 65 out of 155 scheduled shifts operational. By Tuesday afternoon, the city warned of a total service suspension. While officials cite "supply challenges" ahead of the April 1 fuel price hike, critics argue this is a failure of basic procurement and financial management under the current ANC-led coalition.

The "Spaza Shop" Distraction:
While the city’s transport and water infrastructure crumbles, Mayor Moya has been highly visible leading raids on informal traders and spaza shops in areas like Mamelodi and Olievenhoutbosch.

• The "Easy Target" Strategy: Critics argue that targeting vulnerable street vendors is a populist tactic to appear "tough on crime" while avoiding the "real issues" of systemic tender fraud.
• Compromised Leadership?: Allegations suggest

Moya is "compromised" by her coalition partners. While she was quick to place MMC Kholofelo Morodi on special leave over tender manipulation, she has been accused of "protecting" Deputy Mayor and Finance MMC Eugene Modise.

The "Water Tanker Jackpot" and Tender Scandals:
The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has recently exposed a "scramble for Tshwane’s resources":
1. The R2.9 Billion Security Scandal: Evidence points to irregularities in a massive security contract linked to companies allegedly associated with Deputy Mayor Modise.
2. The Water Tanker Crisis: While residents in areas like Hammanskraal still struggle for consistent clean water, spending on private water tankers has reportedly surged to R777 million. The DA has labeled this the "water tanker jackpot," alleging that money is being diverted from permanent pipe infrastructure to benefit politically connected individuals.
3. CFO Under Fire: Tshwane CFO Gareth Mnisi is currently facing suspension proceedings following allegations that he shared confidential tender information with unauthorized third parties to influence bid processes.

Youth Unemployment: The Forgotten Crisis
Amidst the political infighting and "blitz" raids, the youth of Tshwane continue to suffer. With no functional bus service to reach job interviews and a local economy being strangled by infrastructure failures, the administration’s focus on demolishing informal business structures is seen by many as a direct attack on the only survival mechanism left for the unemployed.

As the city enters April, the question remains: is the Moya administration capable of fueling its own buses, or is it too busy fueling the "coalition of corruption"?

THE RENEWAL OF A RHETORICIAN: Mkhwanazi Secures Extension Amid Questions of Parliamentary Performance

DURBAN - Following months of high-stakes testimony and "explosive" allegations in Parliament, the mission has been accomplished for KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

It has been confirmed that Mkhwanazi has secured a contract extension, ensuring his continued grip on the SAPS leadership in KZN through 2031.

While mainstream outlets frame this as a victory for "decisive policing," a deeper look suggests the General’s recent parliamentary appearances were less about "truth-telling" and more about a calculated strategy to secure his professional future.

The Smoke and Mirrors of the Ad Hoc Committee:
Throughout March 2026, Mkhwanazi captivated the Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee with tales of "criminal infiltration" and "political interference." However, as the dust settles, the misleading nature of his testimony is beginning to surface. Critics point out that while Mkhwanazi positioned himself as an outsider fighting a corrupt system, he has been a high-ranking insider for over a decade.

His claims regarding the unlawful disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team have been countered by other senior officials, who suggest the "bombshells" were carefully timed to deflect from his own office’s failure to lower the staggering murder rate in KZN. By attacking the "ineffective" oversight of Parliament, Mkhwanazi successfully pivoted the conversation away from his own accountability, effectively "shouting" his way into a contract renewal.

The Media’s Protection of the Status Quo
There is a bitter irony in how the media handles "truth." While Mkhwanazi, a man of the establishment is given hero status in the headlines, history shows that those who truly challenge power are met with character assassination.

The media rarely says "good things" about real revolutionaries who refuse to play the political game.

History provides the blueprint for this media-driven slander:
1. Patrice Lumumba: The Congolese icon was portrayed by the Western-aligned press of the 1960s as a "communist puppet" and "mentally unstable" to justify his assassination and the theft of Congo’s resources.
2. Thomas Sankara: Long before his betrayal, the media labeled the Burkinabé leader a "marxist dictator," ignoring his revolutionary work in healthcare and literacy to protect colonial interests.
3. Robert Sobukwe: Here in South Africa, the press of the time weaponized the label "dangerous radical" against the PAC founder to ensure the public feared his intellect rather than embracing his vision of African land return.

The "Goal" Attained
Unlike these Pan-African martyrs who died for their principles, Mkhwanazi has emerged from his "struggle" with a promotion of tenure. By playing the role of the "rebel general" while remaining firmly within the state's protective embrace, he has achieved exactly what he set out to do.

The extension of his contract as KZN Police Commissioner proves that in the current climate, the appearance of fighting for the truth is often more rewarded than the truth itself.

“The Backbone of Our Nation”: South African Icons Rally Behind Young Black Men Amidst Economic Struggle

JOHANNESBURG - In a powerful wave of public support, some of South Africa’s most influential women spanning the worlds of entertainment, politics, and activism, have broken their silence to offer a resounding vote of confidence in the country's young Black men.

Led by media Mogul and musician Nandi Madida, a growing chorus of female leaders is calling for a national shift in how the "hard-working Black man" is perceived and supported. Amidst record-high unemployment and a challenging social landscape, these figures are using their platforms to remind the youth that their efforts do not go unnoticed.

"To the young Black man who wakes up every day to build something from nothing: we see you, we value you, and we honour your resilience," Madida shared in a recent social media address that went viral.

"The world may try to define you by your struggles, but we define you by your strength. Don’t let the temporary clouds hide your sun. You are the kings we’ve been waiting for."

Joining the sentiment, prominent activists and politicians have echoed the need for emotional and social solidarity. During a recent youth summit in Soweto, several leaders noted that while the "missing middle" and "unemployed graduate" crises are often discussed in statistics, the human toll on the Black male psyche is immense.

"There is a narrative that tries to cast our young men aside, but they are the backbone of our future economy," said a senior member of the Progressive Caucus. "To the brother working two jobs, the entrepreneur operating out of a garage, and the student studying by candlelight: Your hands are building the South Africa we dreamed of. Never give up, because the harvest for your hard work is ripening."

The movement has gained momentum with various celebrities sharing stories of the men in their lives, fathers, brothers, and colleagues who have overcome systemic barriers. The message is clear: the current hardships are a chapter, not the whole book.
"We know it’s hard. We know the doors sometimes feel locked," added a well-known human rights activist during a televised interview. "But remember that you come from a lineage of warriors. Things will be fine because you are making them fine with every step you take. We are standing right here with you."

The collective message serves as a cultural "booster shot," aimed at combatting the hopelessness that often leads to social withdrawal. By highlighting the value of grit and integrity, these women are fostering a renewed sense of purpose among a generation of men who often feel overlooked by the broader system.

'S*x for Housing' Scandal Rocks Higher Education Sector as Accommodation Crisis Deepens

JOHANNESBURG - A harrowing investigation into South Africa’s chronic student housing shortage has uncovered a predatory "sex-for-rent" scheme, prompting a fierce condemnation from government officials and student rights advocacy groups.

As thousands of students remain stranded without beds for the 2026 academic year, reports have surfaced of unscrupulous landlords in university hubs, particularly in Johannesburg, Durban, and Gqeberha, targeting desperate, unfunded students. These predators reportedly offer "free" or discounted accommodation in exchange for sexual favours, a practice that officials have branded as a "disgraceful violation of human rights."

The Minister of Higher Education addressed the National Assembly on Wednesday, confirming that his department has received several formal affidavits from female students who were coerced into these arrangements after being turned away from official university residences.

"We are appalled by these reports of exploitation. No student should ever have to choose between their safety and their education," the Minister stated. "These landlords are not just breaking the law; they are robbing our youth of their dignity. We are working closely with the South African Police Service (SAPS) to ensure that these individuals are blacklisted and prosecuted."

The crisis stems from a massive shortfall in accredited student housing. While the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has introduced a R50,000 cap on accommodation allowances, many private providers have refused to lower their rates, leaving a "missing middle" of students vulnerable to informal and unregulated housing markets.

The South African Students Congress (SASCO) has called for an urgent audit of all private accommodation surrounding major campuses.

"The shortage of safe, accredited beds has created a hunting ground for predators," said a SASCO spokesperson. "We demand that universities take more responsibility for the private dwellings they recommend to their students."

In response to the outcry, several institutions, including the University of the Witwatersrand and the University of Johannesburg, have set up emergency "hotlines" for students to report incidents of harassment or exploitation by private landlords.

Law enforcement has urged affected students to come forward, promising anonymity and support services, as the government scrambles to fast-track the construction of new state-owned student villages to alleviate the pressure.
