Planning a family trip to Japan? 🇯🇵✨
This is exactly what you need to book ahead of time so no one is disappointed — especially the kids.
Japan is incredible for families, but many of the best experiences aren’t last-minute friendly.
These are the bookings I always plan around first because they sell out fast or require strategy:
🚄 Shinkansen seats
Reserve ahead during weekends, holidays, and peak seasons so your whole family can sit together and skip long station lines.
🏡 Ryokan stays (family-friendly!)
Book 1–2 months early. Rooms with private onsens go first, and kids love futons, tatami floors, and the full cultural experience.
🍣 Sushi-making classes
Book about a week in advance. Hands-on, interactive, and kids feel so proud of what they make.
🥋 Sumo tournaments or morning practice
Tournaments sell out months ahead. Morning practices open closer to the date and are fascinating for kids to watch.
🗻 Mt. Fuji private day trips
Book 2–4 weeks early. Flexible schedules, fewer transfers, and much easier with kids.
🎡 Ghibli Museum
Tickets sell out within minutes on release day. The Catbus room and exclusive short film are pure magic for kids.
🌆 Shibuya Sky
Book 1–3 weeks early, especially for sunset. Incredible views and a memory kids won’t forget.
🍽️ Pokémon Café (Tokyo or Osaka)
Reserve as soon as bookings open (usually 1 month out). Themed food + character interactions = instant kid favorite.
🎨 teamLab Planets / Borderless
Book 4–8 weeks early. Especially popular during school breaks — kids LOVE the immersive rooms.
🥞 Benitsuru Soufflé Pancakes
No reservations — arrive by 6am (or earlier) to get a spot. Worth it. The fluffy pancakes are a hit with kids.
Did you know all of this before booking your Japan trip? 🇯🇵
