Venice 101 ✨🇮🇹🍝🦪
•Venice has 6 main neighbourhoods (Cannaregio, Santa Croce, San Polo, Dorsoduro, San Marco, and Castello). San Marco is where about 90% of tourists mysteriously decide their legs stop working and they never leave that area. Unsurprisingly, the food there reflects this.. most places are overpriced and pretty average at best (they don’t have to try).
•Our favourite neighbourhood is Cannaregio, the old Jewish ghetto. It’s a bit quieter and where you’ll find some actual restaurant gems instead of menus designed purely for people holding selfie sticks.
Know before you go 🇮🇹💡
•Getting lost is normal. Venice is like a maze.
•It’s a walking city.. Venice has no cars, buses, or bikes in the historic center.
•Expect lots of bridges and stairs, so pack light luggage.
•It can be expensive
•It’s worth the extra bit of effort to avoid tourist traps and especially restaurants. Pizza is not local to Venice (so if it’s on the menu, it’s a possible sign that it’s a touristy place).. Obviously if you’re tired and just want something easy, eat anywhere. We’ve all done it.
•It has strict rules to protect the city.
•Flooding happens (Acqua Alta)
•Starting late 2026 you need ETIAS approval… yes, even your vacation needs paperwork now
