We had a blast hosting our Christmas-themed Travel Tech Meetup earlier this month at Gangverk HQ!

The event brought together travel tech innovators and enthusiasts to share ideas and spark new collaborations.

Shoutout to our stellar lineup of speakers who brought real stories and solutions to the table:

* Axel Gunnlaugsson, CTO at Icelandia, shared the company's three-year journey of unifying booking systems while managing massive data infrastructure for Iceland’s largest tour operator.
* Óskar Ómarsson, Project Manager at Keahotels, talked about fighting back against OTAs by ramping up direct online sales for their 10 hotels across Iceland.
* Soffía Kristín Þórðardóttir, CEO and Co-founder of PaxFlow, showcased how their AI-powered platform saves operators thousands of hours by streamlining customer management.
* Jón Freysteinn Jónsson, Tech Lead at Gangverk, introduced a fresh take on filling last-minute tour seats with anonymous deals that benefit operators and travelers alike.

One of our key takeaways from was that fragmented customer data frustrates the travel industry, making it harder to scale customer relationship management and limiting the use of AI for personalized experiences. With customer expectations rising and digital touchpoints multiplying, travel suppliers must rethink how they engage with travelers.

The future of in travel depends on two critical technologies: Customer Data Platforms (CDPs) and data warehouses.

- CDPs provide real-time customer insights by unifying first-party data.
- Data warehouses analyze and store historical data for long-term strategies.

When paired together, they enable brands to scale personalization, reclaim revenue, and redefine the guest journey.
