Today marks the beginning of the biennial art festival Sequences. In their twelfth iteration, themed Pása/Pause, curator Daría Sól Andrews presents a festival centred on slow art.

"I started thinking about time, and slowness, and slowing down. That felt quite relevant to our current state of the world," she explains. With exhibitions and events sprawling across The Living Art Museum, Kling & Bang, The Nordic House, Ásmundarsalur, the National Gallery of Iceland, the Reykjavík Art Museum, and Hvammsvík Nature Resort, this festival is not to be missed.

"When a festival has a quirkiness through it, there's this chance of experiencing something totally unique and exciting. And State of the Art has that potential."

State of the Art begins tomorrow, and opens with the Singer-Songwriter Relay. Writer Ish Sveinsson Houle spoke to some of the participants — such as Mugison, who is quoted above — as they were preparing their new works for the event.

The festival runs from October 7 to 12, with many events in various unconventional venues around town.
