Here, the bay reveals its vast intertidal zone, shaped by some of the highest tidal ranges in Europe. As the sea retreats, it leaves behind a mirror of wet sand, reflecting the abbey as if suspended between land and sky.

These shifting flats — constantly reworked by currents and sediments — are the same environment that forms the surrounding “prés-salés”, home to the famous salt meadow sheep.

A landscape in motion, frozen for a moment.

Mont-Saint-Michel, Normandy.

These are the salt marsh meadows (“prés-salés”) formed by the shifting sandbanks and tidal meanders around the bay. Flooded regularly by the sea, the soil becomes naturally enriched with salt — creating a unique vegetation.

The sheep grazing here are known as “agneaux de pré-salé”, famous for their distinctive flavor shaped by this mineral-rich environment.

A landscape sculpted twice a day by the tides… where nature and tradition still coexist.
