Gazing at the old-fashioned windmills of ZAANSE SCHANS.
Notably, one of the most beautiful and picturesque villages in the Netherlands.

It is a unique historical windmill village that offers a perfectly preserved glimpse of the country's industrial past with its traditional houses, windmills, warehouses and workshops. Many of its village houses are now turned into museums, gift shops or workshops, while others are still used as private residences.

The majority of locations are free to visit including all traditional Dutch trades, several museums, various shops and of course its friendly, cozy restaurants. However, windmills, sightseeing cruise, and some of the museums charge an entrance fee.

TOP ATTRACTIONS YOU CAN SEE IN ZAANSE SCHANS:

🎯ZAANSE SCHANS WINDMILLS, which most people associate with Holland
🎯The CATHARINA HOEVE CHEESE FARM, a great place to catch a live demonstration on how cheese is made in the Netherlands and taste freely the difference of goat cheese, cow cheese, and sheep cheese.
🎯Exploring the ZAANSE MUSEUM
🎯The ZAANSE SCHANS CLOG WORKSHOP, where you can watch a clog maker chisel a pair of wooden shoes from a block of wood
🎯The ZAANSE TIME MUSEUM, which houses an impressive collection of clocks dating back to 1600s.
🎯The BAKERY MUSEUM, that fills the air with the scent of delicious pastries; and

WHAT TO DO IN GEITHOORN?

The best way to experience the fascinating beauty of Geithoorn is by taking a guided canal cruise. The boat captain can speak several languages and will tell you all special things about the village.
To feel like a local, you really need a boat to sail around through the narrow canals and under the bridges. It's either you can rent your own boat, take a canal cruise with a tourist guide, or hiring a private boat tour.

If you prefer to walk or cycle around the village, so you can have a nice view of the houses that stand next to the canal, that is also a better idea. You just have to be extra careful because the bikepath is also used as a footpath for all the travellers and inhabitants of the village.
