Sources familiar with the case raised the alarm, calling for urgent intervention to ensure justice for the detained workers.

“Since 2019, former First Lady Patience Jonathan has locked up about 15 of her domestic staff in Okaka Prison for allegedly stealing her jewellery, without first allowing a competent court of law to try them and sentence them.

A tragic incident occurred in Uromi, Edo State, on March 27-28, 2025. A group of Hausa hunters traveling from Port Harcourt to Kano were misidentified as Fulani kidnappers by local vigilantes. This led to a mob attack, resulting in the lynching and burning of 16 people ¹.

The victims were part of a group of travelers in a Dangote Cement truck, carrying licensed guns for hunting. Despite their pleas, the mob ignored them due to the history of kidnapping and violence in the area, often attributed to Fulani herdsmen ¹.
