Yesterday, Clive Davis, one of the most influential figures in the history of the music industry, passed away at the age of 94.

From his home in New York, where US media reports he died, he leaves behind a legacy spanning over sixty years of music.

From serving as president of Columbia Records to founding Arista Records and J Records, Davis helped launch or relaunch artists like Whitney Houston, Bruce Springsteen, Carlos Santana, Janis Joplin, Alicia Keys, Aretha Franklin, and The Notorious B.I.G.

Few executives have had such a profound impact across different genres and generations. His breakthrough came in the late 1960s, when he sensed the potential of rock music and pushed Columbia in a new direction. From that point on, he built a unique career, becoming one of the industry's most respected talent scouts and earning the nickname "the man with the golden ear."

Among all the artists he worked with, his name will remain forever linked above all to Whitney Houston, whom he helped transform into a global superstar. However, his footprint can also be found behind hits by Alicia Keys, Santana, Kelly Clarkson, and many others.

Active until his final years, he was also famous for his exclusive pre-Grammy gala events.

Andrew Eggleton and Daniel Hird's Definite Grooves project continues to stretch its legs into a new chapter. Originally breaking through around the early 2000s, the Yorkshire duo reconnected in 2024 and have been non-stop ever since with releases on Armada, their own DG Trax imprint and Italian label Groove Culture who have invited them back for this epic four-tracker. 'Alive' eases us in slowly with slinky guitars and big shimmering keys. Unhurried and understated, it's a cool groove that would lend itself to any funk, disco, deep or funky house set. Peaking with a big sax element, it's backed up by three more super juicy cuts. 'Everyday (Move My Soul)' is pure soulful house. Gutsy, dramatic and fun. Meanwhile on the B 'Feel It' is an upbeat affair with a piano/keys lick that won't quit before 'Don't Do Disco' closes with a super tight sample that fits right between their chunky beats. Infectious and definitely very, very groovy.
