FRONTDOC è un festival che propone un ampio panorama sulle opere più interessanti ed innovative del “cinema di frontiera” internazionale: film che esplorano il tema dei confini nelle sue più diverse accezioni (geografiche, politiche, culturali, religiose e sociali) o che attraversano le barriere convenzionali fra il documentario e altri linguaggi espressivi, come il cinema di finzione, l’animazion

e e la sperimentazione video. Un cinema capace di raccontare la realtà contemporanea, i suoi drammi e le sue contraddizioni, spalancando orizzonti di visione inediti e inusuali su una caleidoscopica varietà di storie, personaggi ed esperienze di vita provenienti da tutto il mondo. Forte del successo della scorsa edizione, FRONTDOC torna quest’anno con un programma ancora più ricco di anteprime cinematografiche ed eventi. E con un’importante novità: FRONTLAB, un laboratorio per lo sviluppo e il finanziamento di progetti documentari, destinato ad autori europei e caratterizzato da un forte spirito transfrontaliero. Con proiezioni per le scuole, presentazioni con gli autori e dibattiti, FRONTDOC rappresenta un ricco momento di confronto e riflessione, di scoperta e intrattenimento: non soltanto un punto di vista sul cinema del reale, ma uno spazio d’incontro fra registi e pubblico, fra opere e culture diverse, fra esperienze di vita e di visione.

Our Story

FRONTDOC is a festival that offers a wide view on the most interesting and innovative works in the international “border cinema”: films that explore the theme of borders in its most diverse meanings (geographical, political, cultural, religious and social) or that cross the conventional barriers between the documentary and other expressive languages, such as fiction, animation and video experimentation.

A cinema able to investigate the contemporary reality, its dramas and its contradictions, opening up new and unusual horizons of vision on a kaleidoscopic variety of stories, characters and life experiences from all over the world.

Through screenings for school students, presentations with the authors and debates, FRONTDOC represents a rich moment of reflection, discovery and entertainment: not just a point of view on reality films, but also a meeting place: meeting between authors and public, between different works and cultures, between life experiences and visions.

FRONTDOC returns this year with an even richer program of film premières, workshops and events. The 2018 edition will takes place in the city of Aosta, Italy, in an area on the border between Italy, France and Switzerland, a crossroads of cultures and experiences in the heart of Europe.
