🌋Herculaneum, 2,000 year old Roman Ruins…… What’s left after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD…… still paintings left on the walls and even some of the wood from above the doorways!!! How this is so well preserved blows my mind 🤯🤯🤯 We certainly walked where the romans walked….literally ❤️

Sailing out of Salerno and catching our first glimpse of the Amalfi Coast from the water… gobsmacked doesn’t even cover it.

Mountains drop straight into the sea, pastel villages cling to impossible cliffs, and the whole coastline looks like a painting that’s somehow real. From the deck of the ferry it just keeps getting better with every bend.

This is one of those rare places that actually lives up to the hype. And we’re only just arriving!

Rome, you’ve been wild.

We’ve stood in the shadow of gladiators at the Colosseum, wandered the ruins of the Forum, admired the Trevi Fountain (from a very busy distance), gazed up at the vast beauty of St Peter’s Basilica, and shuffled shoulder to shoulder through the Vatican Museums, equal parts breathtaking and chaotic.

Now we’re rattling south on a train to Salerno, before hopping a ferry to Minori. Even better, we get to meet up with our travel family, Dave and Lenny. Amalfi Coast adventures await hopefully with fewer bracelet salesmen and slightly more limoncello.

Yesterday was one of those pinch yourself days. Standing inside the Colosseum and wandering the Forum… honestly, it was humbling. The heat was relentless, the crowds were heavy, but nothing can take away from the feeling of being surrounded by the bones of Ancient Rome.

Every stone seems to whisper a story, and for once we were actually lost for words (rare, we know).

Of course, Rome doesn’t let you stay too serious for long. Within minutes of feeling all historical and reflective, we were ambushed by street vendors insisting we needed a “free” bracelet. Free, apparently, until it’s already tied on your wrist and you’re halfway through an awkward escape negotiation.

Ancient Rome: awe-inspiring. Modern Rome: persistent.

Wouldn’t change a thing though.

Still trying to process what we walked through yesterday… The Vatican is next level.

One minute you’re shuffling shoulder to shoulder through endless corridors of gold, marble, and masterpieces. The next, you’re craning your neck at the Sistine Chapel ceiling thinking, “How on earth did Michelangelo manage this without a chiropractor?”

St. Peter’s Basilica? Absolutely enormous. We felt like ants wandering around someone else’s palace. No photo could ever do it justice which is annoying because we took about 300.

It was completely unforgettable.

Would we recommend it? Absolutely. Just bring patience, comfy shoes, and maybe a neck brace. Don’t forget to be respectful and cover bare shoulders and no short shorts.
