One Nigerian 🇳🇬man and he wife for Twin Cities don face federal charges after dem allegedly attack Homeland Security agent during incident wey police first describe as kidnap.
Police talk say the matter happen Wednesday for Plymouth, Minnesota, when HSI agents dey monitor one apartment while dem find Oluwadamilola Bamigboye (24) wey overstay him student visa. Agents spot am inside Jeep wey Rekeya Frazier (23) dey drive.
When agents identify themselves, Bamigboye allegedly shout make Frazier drive. As she start the motor, one agent enter the Jeep to stop her, but struggle start inside the vehicle. The Jeep move with the agent still inside, and the agent fear say dem dey kidnap am.
Late Thursday, federal government file assault charges against Oluwadamilola Ogooluwa Bamigboye (24) and Rekeya Lionesha Lee Frazier (23).
According to court paper, on Wednesday, agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) dey monitor one apartment for 3934 Lancaster Lane North, Plymouth, because dem dey find Bamigboye. Dem talk say he overstay him student visa and believe say he dey stay for the apartment. Agents dey watch him Kia motor wey park outside.
Agents dey inside unmarked Ford Explorer wey get light and siren. Two agents wear plain cloth, while one wear vest wey write “POLICE” and “HSI.”
One Jeep park near the Kia, and agents recognize Bamigboye for passenger seat. Later dem identify Frazier as the driver.
Court document talk say when Bamigboye see the agents’ motor, he pull mask cover him face like say he dey try hide him identity.
Both Bamigboye and Frazier come down from the Jeep but stay close as agents waka come, identify themselves as police, and show badge. Dem tell Bamigboye say dem wan talk about him immigration status. Bamigboye enter back seat of the Jeep and ask what kind police dem be. When agents answer say na HSI, Bamigboye hold headrest shout give Frazier say: “Drive! Drive! Drive! Enter motor and drive!”
As Frazier enter driver seat and start the Jeep, one agent jump enter front seat to stop her, while another agent try pull Bamigboye comot from back seat. Frazier and the front-seat agent begin struggle for gear, while Bamigboye try push the agent comot motor.
Frazier manage put motor for drive and begin move. The agent for back door jump away so motor no hit am, but the front door close with the other agent still inside.
The trapped agent shout make Frazier stop and tell her say she dey make very bad decision, but she no stop. She push the agent hand away when he try put motor for park. She tell am say she go crash the Jeep if he no stop, and say she dey carry am go police station.
The complaint talk say the agent come from another state, no sabi the area, and fear say dem dey kidnap am. Bamigboye dey back seat dey call 911, while the agent dey shout for dispatcher.
The agent even bring out him gu?n tell Frazier make she stop, but she still dey drive. Other agents dey chase the Jeep with light and siren on, believing say dem kidnap their colleague. At one point, chasing agents mistakenly hit the back of the Jeep.
Frazier later park the Jeep for front of New Hope Police Department. Bamigboye jump out run enter Hy-Vee store, another agent chase am. One uniform police officer wey dey inside Hy-Vee help hold Bamigboye with taser for back of the store because he no gree cooperate.
Frazier refuse comot from motor or cooperate with
HSI agents. Later, uniform police officers arrive and arrest her. Court paper no talk which agency arrest her, but dem carry both suspects go federal custody, and dem still dey there.
After arrest, Frazier refuse talk to agents. Bamigboye later admit say na him tell Frazier make she drive, and say he try push the agent comot. He claim say he get PTSD because dem kidnap am before for Nigeria, and say na why he react that way.
