One of the Caucasian mummies found from one of the graves excavated in Yanghai, in the middle of the Gobi Desert near Turpan (China's Xinjiang region), surprised archaeologists because he had a stash of still-green ma*****na buried alongside him, weighing almost 1 kilo.
The discovery is important because it "says a lot about how our ancestors lived", and also it "prolongs the period by which we can say that cannabis was used for psychoactive purposes" or perhaps for fortune telling purposes. The man had been buried with a group of artifacts described as rare and high-value: bridles, pots, archery equipment and a kongou harp, materials that support the theory that the person once was a shaman of the Gushi culture. The ma*****na was apparently indigenous to Central Asia, lightly pounded in a wooden bowl in a leather basket.
The man was about 45 years old and buried 2500 years ago.
