While fulfilling the core functions, we hope to design a complete and continuous visiting route. It is a circular and interesting visiting route that passes through our sunken terrace garden, which can meet the functions of a music theater, exhibition space, library and lecture stage. Its openness attracts the public to come and rest in the garden.

Our concept does not want to destroy the drama that has been shaped by nature for thousands of years but hopes to join the shaping process and become a part of this wonder. Our main strategy is to hide in the landscape. The stable is hidden at the foot of the crater by a single-slope roof, and the other functions are hidden in the natural contour of the site.

The main concept of the project revolves around the topic of water. Years ago, water has led to the destruction of the crater walls. A destruction that once gave the crater a new purpose and now again - a new life. The volumes of the buildings are "born" from the water bodies - this allows them to intertwine in the landscape and historical context.

The Hrossaborg mountain ring, with its majesty and scale, serves as a central reference for both the landscape and the project's design. The project is conceived as a sensitive extension of the territory - a respectful dialogue that avoids competing with the grandeur of the environment and instead integrates harmoniously into it.

Castle of Horses is a fortress, a reprieve from the elements: its facades are sturdy, while its interiors embrace visitors in warmth. Its forms are familiar, humble in nature, allowing the landform to exist without competition, but in unison with those who seek its protection.

The eruption of the volcano is a monumental moment in the history of a place, it shapes and redefines the surrounding environment and lanscape and influences local culture, myths, and even religion. We aim to reinstate Hrossaborg's old purpose of housing horses sustainably and consciously while giving visitors a unique experience in one of Iceland's most iconic landscapes.

Sleipnir is Odin's horse, the main and strongest one in Norse mythology. His haven offers comfortable conditions for both people and horses. We wanted to create a cozy and ecological environment, which is why we used wooden materials on the facade with different patterns.
