These ancient Egyptian artifacts got a major glow-up.
So many ancient Egyptian artifacts that we see today have lost their original purpose and meaning. Some pieces that were missing their original parts ended up in modern collectors' hands, where they got totally transformed into something completely different through all sorts of creative modifications.

Take this ancient Egyptian frog statue carved from agate, for instance. Looking at the oval base it sits on, it was probably originally a decorative piece on the lid of some vessel from the Late Kingdom period.

But somewhere along the way, the vessel either got damaged or was lost. So later collectors decided to get creative - they crafted a gold ring band and set the statue right into it, turning it into a vintage ring.

In ancient Egyptian culture, frogs symbolize this amazing life force of self-creation and reproduction ®. They're also the shared image of half the goddesses in the eight-god group from Hermopolis, who were among the first to appear and created the sun on the mound.

The First Globalization—Chinese Products Go Global
Roger D. Morris Roger Morris (1935-), British marine painter, known for his precise depiction of historical details, especially skilled in recreating the appearance of historical sailing ships and ports.

This work "The Manila Galleon in Port Receiving Cargo from a Chinese Junk" depicts a huge Spanish galleon (Galeón) transferring cargo from a Chinese junk at the port.

This "Galleon Trade" (Galeón de Manila) spanned the Pacific Ocean, starting in 1565 and ending in 1815, lasting for a full 250 years. It connected Manila in the Philippines with Acapulco in Mexico, being the first trans-Pacific trade route in history.

The core goods of this trade route were silk, porcelain, and spices from China. Manila Port, as the Asian commodity distribution center at that time, gathered a large number of merchant ships coming from China, Southeast Asia, and other places, and this painting vividly depicts this historical moment.
