These unusual flat peaches are called pesca tabacchiera (or saturnina) and are a traditional Sicilian variety, particularly associated with the slopes of Mount Etna 🇮🇹
They're small, incredibly sweet, intensely fragrant, and have soft white flesh and a tiny stone. They're also quite delicate and seasonal, so they're best enjoyed fresh in Sicily 🍑

My Grandfather Made a Promise Here During WWII 🇮🇹

This is the town in Sicily where my grandfather came from. Before leaving to fight for Italy during World War II, he promised God that if he survived, he would climb the steps to this church on his hands and knees and pray on every single step. He survived, and he kept his promise.

When we began our Italian road trip decades later, we came here to see it for ourselves. His name is still on the first step.

9 years ago today, I went to South Africa for the very first time, with this boy I had just started dating 🇿🇦🥹

Matteo and I were living in Italy at the time, and I came with him to visit his home, meet more of his family, experience my first braai, attend his cousin’s wedding, and see this part of the world for the first time

I had absolutely no idea that 9 years later, South Africa would be such a huge part of our lives — or that the place I was simply visiting would eventually become another home for me ❤️

Looking back at these photos makes me laugh because they feel like another lifetime… but also like yesterday. We were so young, had no idea where life was going to take us, and were just excited to be experiencing it together 🥹

Little did we know this was only the beginning 🇿🇦❤️🇮🇹

Here’s to 9 years of adventures… and to the trip that started a whole new chapter of our lives!🥂

🇿🇦 DAY 1/33: And so the adventure begins… 🚙💨

We packed up our little Suzuki Jimny and hit the road for a 33-day road trip across South Africa! 🥹

33 days. Thousands of kilometres. One tiny 4x4. And absolutely no idea what we were getting ourselves into. 😂

Day 1 started in KwaZulu-Natal as we officially hit the road for what would become one of our favourite adventures we’ve ever done! ❤️🇿🇦
