“Enter ye in at the strait gate...” — Matthew 7:13–14 (KJV)
This image reflects a truth that Jesus Christ Himself taught. In the Bible, the Lord said:
“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
— Matthew 7:13–14 (KJV)
The world often measures truth by popularity. If many people believe something, they assume it must be right. But Jesus taught the opposite. The broad road is crowded because it follows human desires, worldly pleasures, false religion, and rejection of God's Word. Many travel that road because it is easy and requires no repentance.
The narrow way is different. It is the path of faith in Jesus Christ, obedience to God's Word, holiness, and repentance from sin. Few choose it because it requires surrender to God rather than conformity to the world.
The image reminds us that truth is not determined by numbers. In the days of Noah, the whole world was wrong and only a few were saved. In the days of Elijah, the majority followed Baal while the prophet stood for God. Throughout Scripture, God's people were often a faithful remnant rather than the majority.
Jesus declared:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
— John 14:6 (KJV)
The question is not, "What is everyone else doing?" The question is, "Am I following Christ?" One day every person will stand before God. The broad road ends in destruction, but the narrow road leads to eternal life through Jesus Christ.
Therefore, do not follow the crowd. Follow the Savior. Search the Scriptures, believe the gospel, repent of sin, and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ while there is still time.
“Strive to enter in at the strait gate.”
— Luke 13:24 (KJV)
May we choose God's truth over the world's lies, even if we must walk the narrow way alone. Amen.
