When it comes to pasta, Italy is truly in a league of its own. The country produces around 3.7 million tonnes of pasta every year, accounting for about 22% of all pasta produced worldwide.
Italy is also the world’s largest pasta exporter, sending more than 2 million tonnes abroad every year. That represents around 43% of global pasta trade — meaning that roughly six out of every ten kilos of pasta traded internationally come from Italy. 🇮🇹
But the most impressive statistic may be how much pasta Italians themselves eat. On average, every Italian consumes around 23 kilos of pasta per year, the highest consumption rate in the world. Tunisia and Venezuela follow behind, while Americans consume less than 9 kilos per person annually.
Italy has around 120 pasta factories, with many concentrated in regions such as Emilia-Romagna, Campania and Puglia.
So, pasta isn't just food in Italy — it is a tradition, an industry and a symbol of Made in Italy recognized around the world. ❤️🍝
