Melbourne soul singer-songwriter Tanya George has spent a decade bringing her debut album Contrast to life. Drawing on soul, indie R&B and jazzy pop, the record reflects an artist shaped by some serious voices, from Erykah Badu and Jamiroquai to Amy Winehouse and Australia’s own Matt Corby.

With Contrast now out in the world, we asked Tanya to share her Fave Five albums, the songs she keeps coming back to and the artists who have influenced the singer she is today. And yes, after ten years making her own debut, she has absolutely earned the right to put herself on the list.

The North West of Tasmania arguably doesn’t feature often enough on itineraries of visitors to Tasmania. Most people on holiday tend to have limited time and travel to the famous few, such as Cradle Mountain, Freycinet National Park and Bruny Island, perhaps with some time spent in and around Hobart and stopping by at MONA.

Those sites are deservedly iconic and well worth a visit, yet the North West, known for its rugged coastline, patch quilt farmland and raw beauty, has a lot to offer too but often gets overshadowed by the more famed attractions.
