Traces.Dreams

Traces.Dreams Working for a wiser tomorrow More than a video-podcast. Dreaming a shared future. Researchers' stories beyond borders. Together we can make the future better.

We believe in the transformational power of stories and we are sure that if we tell each other what we are working towards, it will be the first step to it becoming a reality. Join the community and share the journey. Traces.Dreams is a place on the web for people interested in the past, passionate about the present and curious about the future. We interview researchers from different disciplines

and countries to get their perspective on their work, views on life, their “whys”, motivation and their wishes. We try to find out how they trace their past lives to the present, and how their research helps to make sense of the world as it is now and how it will in the future.

Is becoming a luxury?

🗯️A new report from the European Commission says that fake news has changed. We are now living in a world where a massive system creates and spreads false stories for profit and power.

🌎This is not a single secret plot. Instead, it is a mix of computer programs, politicians and social media companies working to make from our emotions. Their aim is to make us doubt everything so we can no longer agree on what is real.

⚙️The world turns through the labour of 3.5 billion people, yet on 1 May 2026, International Workers’ Day, the gap between effort and justice has grown deeper than ever. Statistics show that two billion workers live without any safety net.

The goal of development is to improve the quality of life for everyone. In fact, development is directly linked to equality; sustainable progress in a society struggling with discrimination and class divides seems practically impossible.

When opportunities, resources, and fundamental rights are distributed unfairly, the potential of a large portion of the workforce is ignored and the very foundations of social progress are undermined.

1 May and International Workers’ Day give us an opportunity to strive for this equality.

🏙️Have you ever felt like your city is changing right in front of you, but you don’t have a say in it?

🏡When we talk about the “Right to the City,” we are talking about a shift in priorities. It is about making sure that cities are built for to actually live in, rather than just being treated like a giant stock market for real estate.

👥People have been organizing for decades to take back their cities. Going from a protester on the street to actually changing the law is a long road, but it all starts with the idea that the belongs to every one of us.

❓What do we know about the ‘Right to the City’ and its movements?

Is AI truly neutral? A massive new study says no. 🤖⚠️

Petter Törnberg from the University of Amsterdam reveals in a study that large language models reproduce racial stereotypes when used for text labeling. By analyzing 19 of the world’s leading AI models and over 4 million judgments, this study shows that artificial intelligence maintains deep human biases in its core evaluations.

🗃️We spend a third of our lives working, so why treat satisfaction like a luxury we can’t afford? Christina Patterson suggests we stop forcing individuals to be “resilient” and start demanding better cultures. It is a waste of potential to just survive when we should be in environments that actually let us grow.

🏅🏟️The 2026 theme for the international day of Sport for development and peace is “Sport: Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers.” In today’s fragmented world, sport is a universal language that blurs borders and brings people closer together. The goal is to build on successful experiences and use sport to create more peaceful societies. This is a path where no one, regardless of ability or background, is overlooked, and everyone becomes part of a global team.
