Harry Cochrane’s "The Florence Duck Store" is a collection of 23 poems inspired by Italy.
➡️BUY THE BOOK: theflr.net/florenceduckstore

‘The Florence Duck Store’ is the longest verse in the book and is centred on an unrequited love story and a flock of rubber ducks, while ‘Vinanelle’ sees the vanishing of a long-cherished bottle of plonk. Forays from Florence feature Valentine’s in Livorno’s Venezia Nuova and a Sicilian hike up Mount Etna. Modern translations of Guido Cavalcanti and Leon Battista Alberti graze the pages, as does a contemporary take on Dante’s Purgatorio.

About the author
Harry Cochrane is a writer and journalist based in Florence, Italy, where he writes for The Florentine and the Times Literary Supplement. He was born in 1994 in Northumberland, UK.

We saw the stars again.
Next issue of The Florentine out on January 14.

This month’s cover image is a detail of the 1465 fresco by Domenico di Michelino, "The Divine Comedy Illuminating Florence", which is situated on the north wall inside the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence. According to documents, the painting was commissioned on January 30, 1465 and was designed by Alesso Baldovinetti. It shows Dante Alighieri presenting his famous poem to the city of Florence. Views of Hell, Mount Purgatory and Paradise all appear in the background, as described in the poem.

We are grateful to Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore – Duomo di Firenze for granting us permission to print this engrossing portrayal of ’s as we embark on events to mark the seven hundredth anniversary of Dante's death.

Take a walk with us through Florence’s festive streets!

As the region turned “orange” on Sunday, opening stores and making it legit for people to go out within their own municipality, Florentines enjoyed the light displays on via Tornabuoni, in piazza della Repubblica and piazza Duomo, where the city’s tallest Christmas tree has just been switched on in an official ceremony.
