INTRODUCING BURRASCA #5 FIFTH WORLD

Arthur François PEROU - Pôle d'Exploration des Ressources Urbaines
The Calais Jungle: A New World in the Interstices of the Old One

In this article the Fifth World is more real than ever. What about Calais? What if we could learn something more about the urban and architectural reality from this unconventional and somewhat tragic reality happening in Europe? François seems to suggest that we could rethink architecture’s realism from here.

INTRODUCING BURRASCA #5 FIFTH WORLD

Enrico Forestieri
Is•land: A Pragmatic Utopia

The Fifth World is in this project intended from a disciplinary point of view as a non–naive take on architecture. This non–stereotypical project seems to suggest that the Fifth World might be created by an architecture that is grounded in non–obvious places. What if architecture built its own reality in antartica? Might architecture and nature may become one synonymous of the other?

Extinction Migration

Extinction. This might be the keyword to understand the Fifth World. In this artwork, it is invented a reality held together by “a strong synanthropic memory of the way things used to be for tens of millions of years” but that might be no more like that.

Maryam Moayery Nia, Hamed Zarrinkamari
Total Migration

In this provocative paper, the Fifth World is defined as the constantly changing world of migration. What if the migration was a world by itself? What if architects started to think about this reality as the Real?

Federica Andreoni
Fifth World: A Nocturnal Map

In this essay the maps are analysed as a Fifth World. Starting from a “fake” map of the whole world enlightened by the antropocentric reality during the night, in this text it is provided an insight about the map and its heterotopian reality.

Samuel Kapasa
The Jazz City

Is the relation between users and space the Fifth World of architecture? Samuel Kapasa suggests, in the definition of the Jazz City, that through improvisation architecture could become a Fifth World: the city as a mutable reality subject to the users’ will, thanks to the new forms of digitalization.

Gian Luca Porcile
Beautiful Dystopias: About Architecture and Videogames

Given the constancy of a virtual dimension of architecture alongside its history, how has that digital world, and more specifically gaming, is influenced by architectural imagination? In this essay, it is provided a scholarly conducted analysis of this already existing reality.

INTRODUCING BURRASCA #5 FIFTH WORLD

Eleni Han
Digi–topos

As in the 1960s some defined the grid as the ultimate utopian aspiration of architecture, in this work, the Fifth World is interpreted as a topographical grid that topologically adapts to mountains and the environment, without losing its abstract inherent reality. . . might the fifth world be the negotiation of reality with abstraction?

Darran Anderson: Imaginative Compendium. An interview by Luigi Mandraccio

Darran Anderson is a seemingly endless source of awesomeness and connections between reality and history of architecture, culture and the whole field of imagination. He runs his research day by day throw his famous Twitter account, but he is also working on a loose trilogy of books.

INTRODUCING BURRASCA #5 FIFTH WORLD

Won Chul Kim
Manifesto of the Erotic Architecture.

The Fifth World as the herotics of architecture. If it is true that our life is partly defined by sexual tensions and practices as well as desires, why not architecture? In this project it is outlined a non–repressed architecture in which the joyful play of life is its ontological background.
