The Web Series world cup is a circuit of festivals dedicated to short form content, web series or webdocs (aka “webfests”).
It was created in 2015 and started that year with a circuit of 8 festivals in six countries. In 2018 for its 4th edition, the WSWC circuit included 21 festivals in 14 countries.
To be part of the WSWC circuit, a festival must have an international selection of web series and webdocs and at least six awards for web series or webdocs. There can’t be any restriction other than maximum length of episodes and no discrimination whatsoever (age, nationality,
gender, religion…). Every festival fitting these basic standards can apply. The WSWC board is the sole responsible for the choice of the festivals participating in the circuit and publishes every year in December the complete list of participating webfests.
WSWC supports and promotes all webfests in its circuit for free without asking for any mandatory counterpart other than the respect of the above-mentioned standard rules. However, the WSWC kindly ask its festivals to use the WSWC logo in their communication whenever possible and share as much as they can the WSWC updates and rankings.
The WSWC services to creators and webfests are free of any charge.
The WSWC encourages webfests to support each others, develop partnerships and share their announcements in the interest of the creators community.
The WSWC season runs from February to December. Every web series, web doc or pilot selected in at least one of the webfests in the circuit automatically enters the WSWC ranking. Each festival selection is worth 5 points, except for festivals with a small selection (less than 30 titles) and/or with no nominations. For these festivals, the selection is worth 8 points. Each nomination in a special category is worth 3 points Each Award is worth 10 points, except for festival with a small selection (less than 30 titles) and/or with no nominations. For these festivals, every award is worth 15 points. The ranking is sorted by: 1 – number of points, 2 – number of awards, 3 – number of selections. At the end of the season, the program with the most points is crowned “World Champion”.
Starting in 2019 5th edition, the WSWC will recognize three World Champions: the most awarded web series, the most awarded webdoc and the most awarded pilot in the circuit.
Note: Web series, webdocs or pilots in the circuit that are created, directed or produced by webfest board members cannot compete for the World Champion title. They are listed and ranked like the other programs, but are not eligible for the title.
All year long the WSWC promotes and advertises web series and webdocs in the Top 100.
Every title ranked receives an official sticker for its promotion. Programs finishing in the Top 50 are considered to be part of special presentations in Top TV markets and get automatic entry to other prizes or competitions.
