On the occasion of the 2022 edition of the Photolux Festival, Photolux and L'Artiere Edizioni promote an international contest dedicated to photobooks.
Submissions are free of charge and open to all photographers or collectives, professionals and non, from all countries.

👀The award is aimed to recognize the best unpublished editorial projects, giving them a broad visibility and a chance for publication curated by Eva-Maria Kunz (CEIBA editions)!

Today is International Day to stop . Every day should be it, from 10 fold in Mexico to 3 weekly in Italy.

We've had the privilege to work with 3 amazing women, publishing their books tackling this subject matter. Please check out Sina Niemeyer's (Germany), Miki Hasegawa's (Japan), and Anna Maria Antoinette D'Addario's (Italy and Australia) work on child sexual abuse, child abuse and violence against women.

ceiba editions is closing. There’s no easy way to let you all know, but this is, or better, was it. 2020 has been very hard on our business, as on so many. Yet we’re grateful we’re healthy, and, after these last months trying to find a way to make things work, once a decision is taken, it feels easier to let go and move on.

Our gratitude goes to all of the authors who have trusted us with their projects, thank you so much, it has been a privilege and honour to work with you. Another thank you goes to all those of you who’ve we collaborated with on various projects, it’s been fun, enlightening and enriching. And a big big thank you goes to each and everyone of you who have supported us throughout these past years. We’re happy that so many of our babies have found good homes!

We’re sorry to have let down some of you, we truly wish we could have wrapped up a couple of projects. We know you understand, and we’re grateful for that. Grazie!

And one more thank you we add, to you who were lending a helping hand whenever we needed one, be it social-media-ing, making run smoothly our website (which we'll keep up), binding books or standing in line at the post office with them: 😘

We’ll keep the store open till the end of the year, or as long as Italian bureaucracy allows us to. It’s no joke to open a business in Italy, let alone to close it.

Las cifras de violencia y abuso sexual de mujeres en el mundo son alarmantes. Una de cada tres mujeres ha vivido algún tipo de violencia física y/o sexual, en su mayoría por parte de sus parejas o parientes cercanos. Incluso en países como Alemania, uno o dos niños/as en cada salón de clase ha sido abusado, pero son temas poco visibilizados.

Ante esta problemática se posiciona la fotógrafa alemana Sina Niemeyer con su proyecto y fotolibro “Für mich” (“A mi”, en alemán) editado por Ceiba Editions (2018). En este relato autobiográfico, la artista muestra lo que el abuso sexual puede significar para la vida de una persona.

Niemeyer utiliza la fotografía como herramienta para conectarse con sus recuerdos, sanar y reconciliarse con este episodio ocurrido durante su adolescencia. Así mismo, busca compartir su experiencia con otras personas que han sido igualmente afectadas, convirtiendo el proyecto en una herramienta social.

En el fotolibro se presentan fotografías, textos, objetos, archivos familiares y diarios, que en algunos casos interviene a través de tachaduras y quemaduras, pues su primera intención era destruir sus imágenes, debido a la ira contenida. Incluso el título inicial del proyecto era “100 formas de destruir a mi perpetrador”.

Sus fotos de álbumes familiares funcionan a modo de pruebas tangibles, ya que en algunas no sonreía y eso coincide con el periodo de las agresiones. Otras fotografías muestran el lugar donde sucedió el abuso, situaciones incómodas, e incluso un intento de suicidio; que son puestos en diálogo con textos en papel transparente, con oraciones como: “Tuve una infancia muy feliz. Y entonces tú llegaste. Destrozaste todo”.

La frase “Me enseñaste como ser una mariposa solo para poder romper mis alas” que anotaría en uno de sus diarios, forma parte de la tapa blanda del fotolibro encuadernado a mano, que es envuelto por una funda transparente con solapas, en donde el dibujo de un águila se fusiona con uno de sus autorretratos, como símbolo de fortaleza.
