•[Fred Vasseur confirms that they changed the hook on the front wing that was deemed to have flexed too much causing Räikkönen's disqualification. Alfa Romeo has put in place a permanent fix to the wing issue it encountered in Baku to ensure Kimi Räikkönen's exclusion from qualifying in Azerbaijan isn’t repeated at the Spanish GP. Iceman had to start from the pitlane in Baku after his front wing failed a deflection test on Sunday morning.
The wing had a problem with the flap adjuster hook on both sides, which was changed to a new specification for the race. Alfa had identified a component weakness ahead of the Baku race following a problem Kimi had suffered in an earlier GP. However, resolving that properly wasn’t possible during the run of flyaway races, hence a final fix being readied for this weekend's race. Aside from change the adjuster hook, Alfa's front wing has been upgraded for the Spanish GP. The team has revised the inner wing tips and the shape of the elements sitting between the flap adjuster and the endplate.]•

That long opening stint on the Mediums was stellar P7 with reasonable pace by the time he pitted on Lap 26. Alfa & Renault on same points, but Renault P4 due to a higher race finishing position. Kimi Räikkönen reckons losing temperature in his front tyres cost him the chance of finishing as best of the rest behind the top three teams in the Chinese GP. The Iceman came home right behind 7th placed Daniel Ricciardo and 8th placed Sergio Perez in Shanghai to claim the 9th spot. But he reckons he would have had a chance of overhauling the pair of them if he had not lost temperature in his rubber in the closing stages. Kimi said that his Alfa Romeo felt strong on race pace as he pushed through the field following a disappointing qualifying. While Iceman added to his points tally that leaves him seventh place in the world championship standings just one point behind Red Bull's Pierre Gasly his teammate Antonio Giovinazzi failed to finish in the Top10 again. The Finn bagged his first top-ten showing in qualifying for Alfa Romeo on Saturday, putting his Ferrari-powered C38 up into 8th place. : “I didn’t really do a proper run today. We had some cooling issue with the car. They almost managed to fix it but just ran out of time unfortunately. It’s hard to say where we are because we didn’t put the second run together or even the first run. The car felt pretty good but I didn’t have very good laps. So it’s a bit more unknown than let’s say normally if we would have run it would be easier to say. But I don’t think it’s an awful lot different picture to how it was in the last race. Certainly it will be very close and if we get good laps in we might get a good result. We’ll see.”

Maybe it was easier to get closer but overtaking was however relatively difficult. We had to stop a little earlier when something went in the rear brake cooling system. I think we had a small brake cooling problem. One of the tear-offs fell in so we had to stop earlier than we wanted. The car had a lot of speed in my view, but it is still difficult to overtake here. It is easier to get closer but the last push is still tricky in this circuit. It would certainly have been possible to get more from the weekend. Poor start. •[Kimi’s engineer told him the tear off was actually his & told him next time he should keep it inside the cockpit 😅🤣One of the helmet visors got into kimi's brakes, that's the reason kimi had to pit so early. 44 laps from Kimi on the mediums. An amazing drive to conserve those tyres and finish P8. Very pleased with that. Räikkönen ran 9th in the first stint, escaping a first corner brush of wheels with Lando Norris to slot in behind the two Haas and Nico Hulkenberg's Renault in the 'class B' battle. The Alfa was the first car to make an ordinary pitstop in the race, on the 12th of the 58 laps, but Kimi said it was a compromised strategy. Although the early stop was unscheduled, Iceman didn’t lose any places to the cars he had been battling with. He ended up finishing close behind Hulkenberg in eighth place, holding off Lance Stroll's Racing Point, Daniil Kvyat's Toro Rosso and out-of-position Red Bull driver Pierre Gasly in a late five-car battle.]•
