We always prefer to let the investigators speak, but we feel compelled to point out that the attraction in question, a Pegasus 30 aka “ENERGIZER” ride, was manufactured in 2000, over 25 years ago, and has since changed ownership multiple times WITHOUT a single page of the logbook ever being shared with the original manufacturer, NOR any request for inspection or service. So, for the manufacturer, rides like this essentially become a black box. No knowledge whatsoever of current condition, as is the case with many others rides all manufacturers lose track of after delivery.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time incidents occur on vintage attractions where the real issue should raise awareness of a critical point: Safety regulations do exist and rides safety can be fully certified at delivery, but what is often forgotten is that rides don’t maintain themselves. Safety is a daily task that requires constant vigilance of the operators to ensure everything stays in top condition—and relevant maintenance must be carried out by qualified specialists and not bypassed. Too often, cosmetic reconditioning of a ride—carried out independently by the owner—is misleadingly presented as a full reconditioning, or even as a complete rebuilding and upgrade to current standards. Too often, those who perform critical interventions on rides are not properly linked to the chain of responsibility and commitments. This is a serious issue that undermines accountability and, ultimately, safety in the amusement industry we all belong to. Many people assume that a refurbished ride has necessarily been inspected and serviced by the original manufacturer, but since that is often not the case, it’s essential for all of us to reflect on the role of so-called independent specialists, whom many operators rely on—sometimes naively—for critical work. Given that any accident is unacceptable, it is crucial that every intervention be officially recorded and traceable. That said, we are deeply saddened by the incident. Our thoughts are with the injured woman, and we extend our heartfelt sympathy and support to her and her loved ones, with our sincerest wishes for a swift and complete recovery. As the manufacturer, we are fully committed to cooperating with the owner and relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the circumstances and to uphold the highest standards of safety.
