Red Letter Distro is proud to present zines and publications by collaborators and participants in the recent 2022 Asian Aotearoa Arts programme at Toi Rauwharangi, College of Creative Arts Massey University. Over the past three weeks, talks, presentations, workshops and gatherings explored how ‘Asian’ whakapapa might manifest through our art, stories, heritage and lives, our agency and responsibilities as Tangata Tiriti, and asks: What does care, resilience, and allyship look like for our communities in these times?

In light of Black Lives Matter and the growing anti-Asian racism and xenophobia brought on by Covid-19, we present ANTI-RACIST SOUP, a zine which combines care and resistance; the soup, as our comfort food, something that nourishes us, food as a connection to other people, places; and anti-racism as resistance to ongoing forms of racial and colonial violence. With our positioning as tauiwi (non-Māori) people of colour in Aotearoa, this zine presents pieces from migrants of colour and how we can forge genuine solidarity between Black and Indigenous communities, along with unpacking racism as Asian activists, writers, creatives and academics.

🍉🍋🍈🍌🍏🍇 FRUIT STICKERS (A New Perspective) 🍌🍏🍇🍉🍋🍈

A seasonal favourite: FRUIT STICKERS explores the life and times of the ubiquitous fruit sticker; an everyday piece of design ephemera with playful potential. Created by six regular fruit eaters & design graduates from Te Whanganui-a-tara: Briar Lomas, Liam Collinson, Rosa Shand, Billie McGuiness, Christopher Simon and Mia Walsh, this fold out publication and poster (which doubles as a fruit sticker saver!) originally existing as an accompanying text to the 2019 design exhibition of the same name. The project touches on topics of sustainability, food production, and branding, all with a fresh’n’fruity feel. 🍒🍒🍒

SPRINT MILANO FUNDRAISING EVENT: IMMERSIVE LISTENING FOR PIANO SESSION

🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹A live event to celebrate, support and make SPRINT grow.
This Friday November 26th from 9pm to 10pm Spazio Maiocchi will host SPRINT Fundraising event, sculpted in electromagnetic waves, shaped by colloidal dispersions and defined by mechanical vibrations. An immersive listening piano session performed by musician Omar Gabriel Delnevo.

Grown up between Brazil, Italy and England, Omar Gabriel studied classical piano and composition at the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Milan. His approach to music, however, has always been wide-ranging, fluctuating between different genres, with a strong focus on experimentation and the perceptual experience of listening: how does the sound process coagulate, distil and sublimate in the ears of the listener? A listening session is not mere musical discovery, but exploration of oneself and how one reacts to the elements that act outside and inside each one of us.
