STRATA | GUMDESIGN × SILVESTRI MARMI — WHITE CARRARA 2026
Un unico blocco di marmo Bianco Carrara, recuperato da una precedente lavorazione. Un taglio ripetuto ogni cinque centimetri. Sette elementi, tra sedute e tavoli, che prendono forma dalla stessa matrice, riducendo lo scarto al minimo.
«Al termine della lavorazione abbiamo prodotto un solo piccolo sacchetto di polvere di marmo come scarto. Nient’altro.»
Presentato in occasione di White Carrara 2026, Strata nasce dalla collaborazione tra gumdesign e silvestrimarmi e da una riflessione precisa sul rapporto tra progetto e materia: conoscere il marmo, rispettarne le caratteristiche e utilizzarlo con sensibilità, senza rinunciare alla sua forza espressiva.
Abbiamo intervistato Gumdesign per approfondire il concept di Strata, il dialogo con Silvestri Marmi e il percorso progettuale che ha permesso di trasformare un blocco recuperato in un sistema di elementi capace di valorizzarne integralmente la materia.

A single block of Bianco Carrara marble, recovered from a previous project. A cut repeated every five centimetres. Seven elements, combining stools and tables, all shaped from the same matrix while reducing waste to a minimum.
“At the end of the process, we produced just one small bag of marble dust as waste. Nothing else.”
Presented at White Carrara 2026, Strata is the result of a collaboration between gumdesign and silvestrimarmi and a precise reflection on the relationship between design and material: understanding marble, respecting its characteristics and working with it sensitively, without compromising its expressive strength.
We spoke with Gumdesign to explore the concept behind Strata, the dialogue with Silvestri Marmi and the design process that transformed a recovered block into a system of elements conceived to make full use of the material.
