Those sticky rice cake balls must be so delicious because the cook is an expert Japanese grandma.
By the looks of it, she seems to make the dough the same way how mochi dough is made.
First, rice must be washed thoroughly and steamed. Once cooked the rice is transferred to a mochi machine. After a few minutes the dough is ready.
You can see that the master sweet rice ball maker transfers the dough on a floured top where she kneads until she is happy with the texture.
She then rolls out a small portion of the dough and lays a thin and short roll on a wooden rice ball shaper. The balls are portioned by with a skewer and steamed. Once ready, the rice balls are grilled then served with a caramel syrup.
Kudos to you grandma 💚
