Flax and h**p have been used for thousands of years. Now they’re showing up in robotic winding machines, 3D printed shoes, and architectural pavilions.

A look at how biocomposite manufacturing is moving well beyond traditional lay-up.

Ferrari’s first EV is out. And the reaction says it all.
The Luce has 1,036 hp, designed by Jony Ive, $640,000. And it looks nothing like a Ferrari. What’s interesting from our perspective is that Ferrari knows additive manufacturing well. They use it in Formula 1 and in their ICE road cars. With the Luce, it wasn’t part of the picture.
Czinger, Bugatti Rimac, BYD are all heavy AM users. And all making the most exciting cars on the market right now.
Curious about what AM could have done for the Luce? Davide Sher’s full take on VoxelMatters.

Davide’s full analysis on color 3D printing covers a lot of ground. We did our best to fit it into a carousel.
Stratasys’ J850 Prime still sets the benchmark with voxel-level color and up to 7 materials simultaneously. Mimaki gets close with over 10 million colors. But multicolor filament systems are now available for under $500. Bambu Lab, Creality, Elegoo, Snapmaker, Prusa, all pushing what desktop printing can do in color.
The quality gap is real. But it’s closing.

SLA, DLP, LCD. Three acronyms that have defined resin 3D printing for decades. But the technology has moved well past those labels.
Each approach has always had a trade-off. Laser SLA is precise but slow. DLP is fast but edges are blockier. LCD is affordable but lower power. For years, you had to pick your compromise.
Three systems are changing that. The PSLA 270 by 3D Systems keeps the open-vat geometry of classical SLA but replaces the laser with dual projectors; DLP speed without membrane distortion. Formlabs’ Form 4 rebuilds the inverted LCD architecture from scratch, solving the peel and reliability problems that have always limited that geometry. Axtra3D’s Lumia X1 runs a projector and a laser simultaneously, each doing what it does best in a single pass.
The trade-off isn’t gone. But it’s shrinking fast.

A cast that molds to your arm. A pharmacy printing your child’s exact dose. A implant that lowers blood pressure without drugs. A skull rebuilt in 72 hours. And surgery for your dog.
This is just a small part of what we are seeing in medical AM right now. Full coverage on VoxelMatters. Link in bio.

120 million dogs live with impaired mobility. Standard wheelchairs and braces rarely fit well as they are too heavy, too generic, too uncomfortable.
3DPets scans each dog, designs a custom device, and prints it in TPU on a Creality K2 Pro. Then finishes it by hand.
Mustard was born without his front legs and had never taken to any device he’d tried. Within weeks of working with 3DPets, he had a custom wheelchair and his strength started improving. His is one of many stories like this.

We’ve been following LEAP 71 for a while now, and the story keeps getting bigger.
A Dubai-based company that designs rocket engines entirely with AI. No human intervention in the engineering process. Additive manufacturing is the only way to physically realize what Noyron, their computational engineering model, produces.
200 kN aerospike engine. 2 MN full-flow injector head. Engines hot-fired. Now industrializing in the UAE with Sindan to target jet engines and space propulsion.

Apollo Automobil’s EVO hypercar has an exhaust that’s hard to look away from. 🐉 A single piece of titanium, printed in 123 hours, with a ceramic coating rated to 1,000°C. The dragon scale texture isn’t just for show; it distributes heat across the structure. No welds, no joints, no conventional manufacturing process that could have produced this geometry.
10 units. $4 million each.
