Whispers in blue ink.

Laure Pigeon’s drawings unfold like secret manuscripts — dense weavings of blue ink where words, lace-like patterns, and female figures merge. More than art, they are acts of remembrance, a way to keep alive the voices of those she loved and lost.

A legacy saved from silence.

Recognized by Jean Dubuffet as a major case of Art Brut, Laure Pigeon created nearly 450 works between 1935 and 1964. Her pieces, saved from destruction and preserved today in the Collection de l’Art Brut, reveal not only striking visual power but also an intimate, spiritual quest for healing and connection.

Tribal art reborn.

Jivya Soma Mashe took the Warli women’s ritual paintings—once ephemeral and tied to ceremonies—and turned them into permanent works of art. Through his unique style, he shared his tribe’s culture with India and the world, bringing global recognition to Warli art.

The first book on Jivya Soma Mashe 📖

Through the quality of his work, Jivya Soma Mashe stands comparison with other outstanding enigmatic artists, such as Bill Traylor or Frédéric Bruly Bouabré, who broaden our understanding of the diversity of forms and cultures.

Born in 1934 in Maharashtra, India, and raised within the Warli tribe, Mashe inherited a visual language where circles, triangles, and squares embody the spiritual and natural world. While Warli painting was long a women’s ritual art—ephemeral and bound to ceremony—Mashe made it his lifelong medium.

After losing his mother at a young age, he immersed himself in drawing, forging a style that would win admiration across India and beyond. From Indira Gandhi’s recognition in 1976 to major international exhibitions in Paris, his works became a bridge between ancestral tradition and contemporary art.

This is the first book to be entirely dedicated to his artwork.

Art from the earth ✨

Indian artist Jivya Soma Mashe transformed a sacred tradition into a universal language of art, from the walls of Warli huts to the world’s museums.

His works celebrate a culture where geometry, nature, and spirit are one.

✨ A collector’s jewel in book form ✨

This volume is crafted with the precision of a jewel, presenting a rare selection of nearly one hundred West African combs drawn from one of the world’s most distinguished private collections of sub-Saharan African art.

Spanning over sixty years of dedicated collecting, the book unveils pieces never before seen, accompanied by an authoritative essay by Alain-Michel Boyer—his final, decade-long work devoted to a subject rarely explored.

Beyond their function as personal accessories, these combs from Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Nigeria emerge as miniature sculptures. They embody a pursuit of beauty so refined that they transcend utility, elevating the art of body adornment to the realm of fine art.

“To Venice you must always arrive late, when it shuts down, as Morand said, because to life itself you always arrive at a later stage, after discovering that our trade consists in learning to materialize the excess of what we’ve experienced —as Merleau-Ponty would say—over what has already been said”.

“A Venezia devi sempre arrivare tardi, quando si spegne, come diceva Morand, perché alla vita stessa si arriva sempre in un secondo momento, dopo aver scoperto che il nostro mestiere consiste nell’imparare a materializzare l’eccesso di ciò che abbiamo vissuto – come avrebbe affermato Maurice Merleau-Ponty - rispetto a ciò che è già stato detto”.

Where vision meets silence.

Alejandro Merizalde’s images take us far from the familiar postcards and into the most fragile, authentic side of Venice: the lagoon, the lesser-known islands, the quiet landscapes that speak in whispers.

Over more than a decade, Merizalde has built a story made of light, water, and stillness — a visual tribute to what endures on the edges of the tourist gaze.

Turning these pages, every photograph invites you to see — and protect — a different Venice.
