Georg Baselitz, 1938–2026// This post is about one of my beloved humans, one of the founders of the Neo-Expressionist movement that swept over Europe in the 70s. The one who was deeply rooted in art history and the expression of one’s soul through art.

The one who preached his unique method of inverting representational direction so that the viewer could focus on his expressive mark-making rather than the figure portrayed.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Georg Baselitz, the one of the most influential artists of our time, who redefined the tenets of Expressionism.

A pioneer of postwar German painting, printmaking, drawing, and sculpture, he profoundly influenced the direction of contemporary art, returning the human figure to a central position.

Drawing inspiration from Soviet-era illustration, Mannerist art and African sculpture, Baselitz developed a unique, unmistakable visual language that was always inviting us to see the world from new perspectives… as we should!

You gotta love the Art Deco-inspired bathroom at , a boutique hotel located in London’s vibrant Fitzrovia district. Designed by the studio Lind + Almond , the interior blends Victorian architecture with 1920s-edge elements like polished steel and softly curved furnishings.

This design elegantly merges the historic glitz and bohemian spirit of the area with the dynamic, contemporary urban fabric of London. Art plays a pivotal role in defining the hotel’s character, with a curated selection of works paying tribute to the intellectually curious figures who made Fitzrovia their home during its golden years from the 1920s to the 1950s.

João Pombeiro has spent the past few years doing up a derelict casa nobre in Abrantes. But rather than restoring a similar order and balance to the garden, its odd shape and position saw the Portuguese interior designer and architect decide to make it denser, more layered and labyrinthine.

While making the house habitable, the parallel thought of how to make the garden function lingered in João’s mind. Instead of trying to bring order and a greater sense of balance, he decided to do the opposite. ‘Since there was no particular shape, I introduced more layers and made it more confusing,’ he says. To create the illusion of a bigger garden, he turned it into a maze so one might discover new areas while making one’s way around it.

Elements of inspiration came from the riads of Marrakesh, which often feature springs and fountains. ‘I felt the house needed to be almost autonomous,’ says João, with enough interest and activities that one would never want to leave. Together with the five citrus trees, João also discovered a full well, which enabled him to complete a ‘watering hole’. ‘I didn’t want to call it a “pool” in the beginning,’ he says. ‘For me, it was almost... I don’t know… a water mirror that you can swim in,’ adding: ‘I wanted to give the water to the garden rather than to us, even though we need to use it, to cool off.’

‘The art of Room Dividers’ cuz walls can be so overrated.

I. The use of Claustra partitions — open wooden dividers with rounded cutouts — allows for the definition of spaces without blocking natural light or views.
II. Floor to ceiling curtains — versatile and cost effective.
III. Wooven rattan framed in dark wood — provides partial visibility while adding texture and warmth.
IV. Glass panels in a geometric grid — creates a rich interplay of light while acting like an elegant separation.
V. Metallic bronze frames w/ wood slats — adds a cozy and intimate mood with a slightly tropical undertone.
VI. ..and the timeless glass blocks, giving a classic feel, reminiscent of mid-century.

Year of the horse//And there’s something about the night that lures you into its magic — the warm lights dimming the reality, the deep thinking going places, but there’s nothing like it — every room, every corner, every thought has a whole nother story. It’s when the world is quiet, the fire within starts to burn.
