We have decided to complete the collection of works conceived at Villa Diodati during the Year Without a Summer. A new book joins the campaign: The Vampyre by John Polidori together with The Fragment by Lord Byron, in a limited edition of 250 copies.

We are publishing The Vampyre in its original 1819 form, exactly as it appeared in its first standalone edition. This choice reflects our approach to Frankenstein, since the 1819 text is a fundamental part of the story’s history and of the night that gave birth to these legendary works.

The book will have a turquoise blue leather cover, hot stamped in bright red and dark gold, with a cut-out revealing the endpaper pattern. It will be printed in silver letterpress on black paper, 64 pages, measuring 23 × 15.5 × 1.5 cm.

Inside it will feature two full-page illustrations and a double-page endpaper by the Italian artist Grazia La Padula. Grazia La Padula is a comic artist and illustrator. She debuted in France with Le jardin d’hiver and later published Les échos invisibles with Tony Sandoval. Her work has appeared in Linus, Delcourt, L’Espresso, La Lettura, Rolling Stone, Feltrinelli, Jacobin, Mondadori and Il Castoro. Her most recent book is Itinéraire d’une garce, published in Italy by Oblomov in 2024. She teaches comics at IED in Rome.

We have also created a special box designed to hold Frankenstein together with The Vampyre and The Fragment, allowing you to keep the entire Villa Diodati collection in one place. The box measures 32.5 × 44.5 × 8 cm.

Dear backers,
with this poster, a tradition is officially born: every Morning Bell edition will have its own dedicated poster.
This time, together with Marino Neri, we chose a dual approach: for the setting, we moved away from all the cinematic depictions of Frankenstein’s laboratories; on the other hand, in the design of the titles and credits, we chose a style that clearly echoes movie posters from the 1930s and 1940s.
The poster will be screen printed with natural colors.

A small focus on the color screen-printing phase: each color will be specially created for these illustrations using natural pigments. For example, the green comes from chlorophyll, the red from madder root, and the gray for the shadows from graphite, etc.
Before a final pass through our letterpress machine to complete the artwork with the main color.
Swipe through the images to see all the steps.

OFF TOPIC:
We are pleased to inform you that we have received the order for the last Cricket Edition. Starting today, it will no longer be available in our store.
Furthermore, we have resumed shipping post-campaign orders after clarifying some customs-related issues in certain countries. We apologize for this delay, but a little extra waiting time will hopefully allow us to continue shipping more smoothly and with less bureaucracy.

You may have read about it in yesterday’s newsletter, but it’s time to spread the news! We’re very excited to announce t...

We’ve entered the launch month, and it’s time to start presenting the different editions.
The first and base edition is the Lake Edition, which will be part of the Super Early Bird 24h offer at a price of $299.

On the spine, you’ll find the author’s full name, the title Frankenstein, and the Morning Bell logo.
On the front cover, you’ll see Marino Neri’s illustration, together with the complete title of the work: Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus.

This edition includes 266 signed and numbered copies, from No. 186 to No. 451.
It is entirely hand-sewn and hand-bound, featuring Bodoni-style binding in grey cloth.
The cover is decorated in three colors with hot stamping, and the book is entirely printed in letterpress, in four colors.
It also includes 15 illustrations printed in letterpress in one color, with the option to add additional colors in silkscreen printing with natural pigments as an add-on on Kickstarter, although Marino Neri’s illustrations were conceived to work perfectly even with the main color alone.
