BREAKING: UNMISS Peacekeepers Save Man Buried Alive in Renk, South Sudan

In an extraordinary display of courage and determination, UNMISS peacekeepers in Renk, South Sudan, have performed what many are calling a miracle rescue.

After receiving an alert that a local man had been buried alive by a landslide, the peacekeepers rushed to the scene. Refusing to give up, they dug tirelessly for hours—until the impossible became reality.

They saved 26-year-old Jimmy Ogwu, who had been trapped beneath the earth with no way to move or speak.

“I could hear the voices above me… the crying. I wanted to scream, but the mud all around me didn’t allow me to speak,” Jimmy recalled, still shaken but grateful for the second chance at life.

This heroic act has touched the hearts of many and reminded the world of the life-saving role peacekeepers play, even in the most desperate situations.

UPDATE: A remedial student(name withheld) from Maikir sub-section of Lou Nuer Community placed at Wallega university was shot in the hand during yesterday incident by Anywa Terror group that has been terrorizing the whole of Gambella region for the past years causing severe damage to two of his fingers.

He is reportedly under medical attention as of yesterday

He’s reported to have went to Ethiopia for studies and was unfortunately caught up by Anywa terror atrocities aimed at trying to wiped the Nuer Community out of berbersab and Gambella region, Ethiopia.

Lou Nuer community Association in Ethiopia condemned such act against her members in its totality, extending sympathy and its wish for his speedy recovery.

GOVERNOR OF UNITY STATE, H.E. RIEK BIM TOP, LLM, OPENS COUNTIES COMMISSIONERS' FORUM, URGES PARTICIPANTS TO FOCUS ON THE SKILLS FOR DIALOGUES, TRANSPARENCY, AND ACCOUNTABILITY.

Bentiu, Thursday, 18th December, 2025- H.E. Riek Bim Top, LLM, the Governor of Unity State, opens the commencing Counties Commissioners Forum and urges the participants to keenly use this event as ground for gaining skills when bringing communities for dialogues, transparency, and accountability. So that essential services delivery is strengthened.

In attendance were representative from UNMISS-HOFO, state Government advisors, state ministers, county commissioners, independent commission commissioners, executive directors, Directors General, youth, and civil society organizations.

Madam Stella, representing HOFO, highlighted the key commitment of the UN collaboration with the state government: "The UNMISS and the state government collaborate on this program with the aim of strengthening local governance in the state and strategically promoting sustainable peace between the civil population." And also helping in aligning the communities' needs with the government's interest. "

H.E. Riek Bim Top, the Governor of Unity State, strongly emphasized and urged the participants to use this opportunity as a step for learning dialogue skills, transparency, and accountability. He said the forum isn't just a forum for gathering government officials but a strategic refreshment training for rebuilding their leadership grounds such that challenges hampering essential services delivery are mitigated.

THE GOVERNOR OF UNITY STATE, H.E. RIEK BIM TOP, OFFICIATES THE HANDING OVER CEREMONY OF THE IEC-UNITY STATE BUILDING.

Bentiu, Tuesday, 16th December, 2025- H.E. Riek Bim Top, the Governor of Unity State, officiates the handover ceremony of the Independent Electoral Commission.

Significantly, the event was attended by the HOFO-UNMISS, members of the High Independent Electoral Commission, members of the State Transitional Legislative Assembly, government advisors, ministers and the chairs of the independent commissions.

Mr George Gattang, the chairperson of IEC in the state, said that they have started to carry on the awareness, and with this opening, they are going to achieve more on voter education.

Mr Sam, HOFO, appreciated the great partnership role played by the Government of Unity State. "We have had a great partnership through the process of this infrastructural development. UNMISS chose to invest in this. And the intention is to ease the election processes, marking the end of the transitional government. I am urging the communities and the state government to make good use of this important infrastructure. UNMISS is going to steadfastly support the electoral commission." He said.

H.E. the Governor of Unity State, Riek Bim Top, said this building is more than its appearance; it is a bridge and a symbol of collective commitment. He said it also represents the hope and will of our people in choosing their leaders."

For the first time the Independent Electoral Commission in Unity State owns an office to exercise its activities. After this new development, the Commission will be able to carry out their duties of awareness of election processes.

SOUTH SUDAN DELEGATION CONDUCTS FIELD VISIT TO OIL COMPANIES IN PORT SUDAN 🇸🇩.

South Sudan delegations 🇸🇸 and Sudan authorities 🇸🇩 in a high-level engagement underscoring the government’s focus on the critical oil sector. Hon. Tut Gatluak Manimie Presidential Advisor on National Security Affairs accompanied by the Honorable Ambassador Monday Semaya K. Kumba, Minister of Foreign Affairs International Cooperation alongside a delegation of other senior government officials on a field visit to oil companies dealing with South Sudan and inspected the oil loading terminal at Port Sudan.

The visit highlights efforts to ensure South Sudan's crude oil exports flow smoothly via Port Sudan to international markets, involving discussions on oil transport, security, and regional stability.

Governor of Unity State, H.E. Riek Bim Top, erects the peace committee formed to oversee intercommunal conflicts between sisterly Unity State and Ruweng Administrative Areas.

Bentiu, Friday, 12th December, 2025 – The Governor of Unity State, H.E. Riek Bim Top, LLM, erects this year's tripartitely co-shared committee on peacebuilding.

The committee, comprised of representatives from the Unity State Government, the Ruweng Administrative Areas administration, and the Diocese of Bentiu with the main facilitation from UNMISS' Civil Affairs department, is set to kick off their mandatory roles in oversight and harmonisation of grudges between the local communities. This initiative aims at redinition of peaceful coexistence and to promote sustainable peace in the neighbourhood.

The Unity State team is geared today with the directive from H.E. the Governor of Unity State to meet the counterparted committee formed in Ruweng to table up important issues mentioned above.
