𝐉𝐔𝐁𝐀, 𝐒𝐄𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐄𝐑 𝟏𝟓, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 — President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the Commander-in-Chief of all organized forces, on Monday presided over the promotion of several senior officers in the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) and the National Security Service (NSS).

The ceremony, held at the President’s office, was attended by the Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, General Chol Thon Balok.

Among those elevated was Vice President Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, who was promoted from Lieutenant General to full General in the NSS.

The Minister of National Security, Mamur Obote Mete, also rose from Lieutenant General to General, while the Presidential Advisor on National Security Affairs, Madut Dut Yel, received the same promotion.

H.E.Dr.Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, the Chairman and Commander-In-Chief of SPLM/A IO, has met his lawyers this afternoon.

He is in good health and also in a very high spirit and confident that the country will prevail regardless of setbacks.

The suspension of South Sudan’s First Vice President Riek Machar will paralyse key government functions and serve as a test of judicial independence, civil society leader Edmund Yakani said on Friday.

Speaking to , Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of Community Empowerment For Progress Organization (CEPO) said some government mechanisms will stall since clusters previously chaired by Dr. Machar will remain vacant until the court delivers its ruling.

Mr Yakani added that the expected trial of Dr. Machar and other accused SPLM-IO members will be a crucial test of the judiciary’s independence. “It will be a real test for the judiciary. At the same time, the fate of the Agreement is also politically in question,” he stated.

Yesterday, President Salva Kiir Mayardit suspended First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar and Minister of Petroleum Puot Kang Chuol through a Presidential Order read on the state broadcaster SSBC.

This development came on the heels of the announcement by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Joseph Geng Akec that Dr. Machar and eight other co-accused members of the SPLM-IO will appear in court for trial for a range of charges.

GOVERNOR OF UNITY STATE, H.E. RIEK BIM TOP, LAUNCHES PAKUR RESETTLEMENT SITE.

Pakur, Thursday, 11th Sept,2025: the Governor of Unity State, H.E. Riek Bim Top, launches the Pakur resettlement site. One of the recently reclaimed areas from flooding.

Governor Bim was accompanied by partners IOM, UNMISS, and state government officials to the site inaugurated.

Madam, Stella Abayomi, the acting HOFO, expressed the UNMISS' commitment to strengthened partnership for delivering humanitarian services needed by the needy people.

H.E. Riek Bim Top, the Governor of Unity State, stated that the state government and the partners are remaining steadfast to the durable solutions. Calling this launching as hope and the first huge successful reclamation of the lands submerged by flooding.

The Pakur resettlement site is 5000 km square, which will host around 1000 households, reducing the overcrowding in Rubkona town.
